Footage of the former CEO of Chick-fil-A suggesting white people should shine black people's shoes from 2020 has resurfaced in the wake of the Christian company hiring a diversity officer.
The three-year-old video shows Dan Cathy, son of Chick-fil-A founder S. Truett Cathy, getting down on his knees and shining the shoes of Lecrae Moore, a Black Christian rapper at an Atlanta church.
While discussing the topic of repentance at a June 14 roundtable at Passion City Church, Cathy said that the world needs to have a sense of shame, embarrassment, and 'an apologetic heart.'
The video sparked backlash online, with some critics calling it racist and bizarre.
The discussion came after the city was rocked by protests over the police shooting of Rayshard Brooks, which occurred there the weekend prior, as well as the earlier death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

'We've had a dozen Chick-fil-A restaurants that have been vandalized in the past week, but my plea would be for the white people rather than point fingers at that kind of criminal effort would be to see the level of frustration and exasperation and almost the sense of hopelessness that exists among some of those activists within the African American community,' said Cathy.
'It has to hurt us, we as Caucasians, until we are willing to pick up the baton and fight for our black, African American brothers and sisters,' he added.
That's when Cathy got up and began to shine Moore's shoes, suggesting it could be a path for white people to redeem themselves.
'I invite folks to put some words to action, and if we need to find somebody who needs to have their shoes shined, we need to just go right on over and shine their shoes,' the CEO said as he huddled over Moore's shoes with a brush.
Crays' remarks sparked bewilderment and criticism on Twitter back in 2020. The video has gone viral once again, causing backlash among online critics.
This comes after outraged conservatives called for a boycott of Chick-fil-A after news the company had hired a Vice President of 'diversity, equity, inclusion' went viral this week.

Conservatives are outraged online after Chick-fil-A's DEI VP statement went viral
Chick-fil-A had originally released a statement in 2021 to speak about its company mission to care for customers and employees alike, a purpose they summarize as 'Better at Together.'
'We understand that the path toward Better at Together looks different for every business,' the statement says.
'At Chick-fil-A, Inc., our commitment is to approach this work with intention and humility, always believing the best in one another and striving for common ground. We're early on in our journey, but we're honored by the opportunity to steward our organization's greatest asset – our people – and are energized by the road ahead.'
McReynolds previously said DEI is necessary to fulfilling the company's corporate goal.
'Chick-fil-A restaurants have long been recognized as a place where people know they will be treated well. Modeling care for others starts in the restaurant, and we are committed to ensuring mutual respect, understanding and dignity everywhere we do business.'
'These tenets are good business practice and crucial to fulfilling our Corporate Purpose,' he continued.
Chick-fil-A's DEI initiative hopes to 'focus on promoting equal access to opportunities, valuing differences and 'creating a culture of belonging,' according to their website.
The company, said it has supported various organizations, including Women in Business (WIB) and the Black Employee Resource Group (BERG).
Conservatives took to Twitter to share their disapproval - with some believing Reynolds was a new hire for the company.
One user said, 'Something tells me Chick-fil-A is going to be called to repent soon.'
Another said: 'Hi Chick-fil-A 100k+ lifetime points since app was launched. You've now lost my family after this ridiculous, marxist DEI statement. Very sad/disappointed and I know my $ doesn't matter… but I guess it was just a matter of time before you allowed the communists to take over.'
Chick-fil-A was founded by devout Christians and famously known for their religious ideals. The Cathys are the reason that Chick-fil-A has historically been praised by conservatives for its strong Christian roots and has cited religious values as part of their philosophy guiding their leadership of the company.
