Food lovers have been desperately scrabbling to land a role as a taste tester after the job advert went viral on social media.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is looking to hire an on-site dairy enthusiast who is willing to try out 24 cheese samples and 12 pizzas per week.

The position will pay $15 an hour and participation will entail three-hour long sessions, three times a week.

The chosen 'Professional Consultant' will be a cheese-lover that is 'capable of verbally describing their sensory experience on the basis of appearance, texture, taste, and aroma attributes, for research and product development purposes,' according to the job posting. 

If hired, the job will entail tasting 24 cheese samples and 12 pizzas per week.

According to the posting, responsibilities include: 'Describing food products and evaluating them using scales, panel discussions, entering scoring data into electronic ballots, training discussions on products, and panelist performance monitoring studies.'

The position will be based on-site at the campus in Madison, Wisconsin, for the department overseeing the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences/Dairy Research.

The dairy-enthusiast will be paid $15 per hour, and will participate in three-hour long sessions, three times a week.

The last day to apply is June 21 and, although the position is currently temporary, there is the 'possibility of extension.'

Another added: 'As a native cheese-head, I would consider moving back to Wisconsin for such a position.'

Even a lactose-intolerant tweeter is willing: 'With lactase each day before my shift starts, because it's a dream job, and I'm not letting my bowels ruin it.'

Another commentator joked: 'I've never wanted to go back to college until now. I would major in cheese and minor in pizza.'
