The Cavinder twins have blasted a recent article they participated in as 'blatant[ly] sexist' and said the interview with the NIL stars was done under a 'false pretense.'

Hanna and Haley Cavinder spoke to The Free Press for an article titled 'The NCAA Has a 'Hot Girl' Problem,' and the former University of Miami basketball players were not happy at the final product for the piece, which was written by Ethan Sherwood Strauss.

'We were specifically told via the publication the context would be to 'see the Cavinders as a very important story not only in the context of women's college sports but new media culture and business,'' they said in a statement posted to social media.

''They're building a hugely successful brand, and they're at the forefront of a new space, and we think that's exciting and newsworthy.''

'The subsequent article not only demeaned our athletic achievements and business accomplishments it furthered the narrative that hard working, creative and driven women can only do well if they are deemed attractive. The piece disregards our work ethic and dedication towards NIL and business endeavors. [The author] fails to acknowledge the young girls/woman that follow us and that we work so hard to inspire.'

Aside from the article's title, a tweet promoting the piece from The Free Press' official account read, 'The Cavinder Twins, the emerging oligarchs of women's college basketball, weren't the best players. But they might be the best-looking.'

Additionally, the article claims that 'lots' of their TikTok videos 'wink at the male fantasy of group sex with identical sisters, 'featuring captions like 'when he asks for blonde twins for Christmas' and 'I want a girl with a twin sister.''

The Free Press was founded by former New York Times Opinion editor Bari Weiss, while Strauss used to work for ESPN.

'Instead [Strauss] degrades us down to 'hot girl(s)'. We agreed to do the interview and wanted to support a woman ran news outlet,' the twins continued.

'We are both disappointed and disgusted by this journalism practice and blatant sexist trope. We only wish to inspire young woman to chase their dreams, work hard, dream big. Now we must also defend them against men that wish to sum their potential to physical appearance.'

Weiss called the story a 'great piece.'

While the pair, who previously signed NIL deals with Victoria's Secret, Raising Canes and more were eligible to play a fifth year of college basketball, they declined to focus on life off the court.

The twins have since signed a podcast deal with Jake Paul's company and are reportedly mulling a career in pro wrestling as well.
