The son of ESPN analyst, Kirk -- also a former Buckeye -- revealed he has had something of a 'setback' in recent times before assuring those concerned he is on an upward trajectory.
Kirk Herbstreit released a statement on behalf of his son via his own Twitter account Tuesday afternoon.
'I have had a bit of a setback these past couple of weeks. Not feeling right. Culminated with tests results this past Friday that forced me into the hospital.
'I have some of the best cardiologists looking after me, and I am beyond appreciative.
Zak Herbstreit was hospitalized Friday following health concerns -- he said in a statement
Herbstreit is the son of ESPN's college football analyst, Kirk, and a third-generation Buckeye
Kirk Herbstreit, like his father before him, was a football captain during his time at Ohio State
'We are doing a number of tests and conjuring a plan to ensure that I will be able to be back to feeling normal again.
'I appreciate the overwhelming support over the past couple of days. I am feeling good and hope to be out of the hospital soon.'
Prior to the statement Kirk acknowledged the response of individuals expressing their concern for his 6-foot-2 son.
'I just wanted to add how much we appreciate so many people reaching out concerned about his well being,' Kirk said. 'He has a long journey ahead of him.'
In a follow-up tweet, Kirk urged those desiring to support his son to message him directly.
Kirk released a statement on behalf of his son, expressing his hope of being released shortly
'He is awake and on his phone from time to time. If you’d like to send him a note he’s at @ZHerbstreit. Again thanks very much for your thoughts and prayers for Zak.'
Herbstreit is one-third of the first three-generation family in Ohio State history.
Kirk Herbstreit played at Ohio State from 1989–1993 before joining ESPN in 1996, where he has been the network's lead college football analyst for two decades.
The younger Herbstreit is in his second season with Ohio State's football program and is a walk-on tight end.
