A New York City mother called her former babysitter a 'straight-up predator' after he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexually abusing her son for six years in their Manhattan home.
The unidentified mother addressed Jonathan 'Jay' Luna, 34, of New York, in the Manhattan Supreme Court Thursday, telling her former babysitter that he broke her 'mom heart.'
'To call you a wolf in sheep’s clothing is in a way how it feels, but that sounds too poetic,' she said through tears. 'What you really are is a straight-up predator, a pedophile.'
The mother only discovered the abuse - which took place from the time her son was in second to sixth grade - after her child told her Luca had 'raped' him.
'He told us that that guy – our guy – had repeatedly and regularly molested him… raped him were our son’s words,' she said during her 10-minute victim impact statement.

Luca reportedly sexually abused the woman's son for six years while acting as his babysitter
Her 'tormented' son, who is now a teenager, suffered from nightmares and has been unable to enjoy similar experiences to his peers, like sleep-away camp, according to his mom.
'You did those things, and then you did them again. You could’ve quit knowing you crossed the line but you didn’t. You kept at it for years in our home without his consent. He was so young, so little,' the mother said in court, according to the New York Post.
'Up until then, we considered you part of the family. I cared for you more like a nephew than a babysitter,' she continued. 'As for me, your actions quite literally broke my heart — my mom’s heart.'
In addition, prosecutors worry there are more victims, as Luca has worked with children for several years.

Prosecutors fear there are more victims as he worked with children as a camp counselor and in after-school programs
He worked as a Cubmaster from 2007 to 2012, as a camp counselor at the Boy Scout Keowa Summer Camp in Sullivan County in the summer of 2015, an after-school counselor at the McBurney YMCA Afterschool Program at PS 41 in Greenwich Village from 2013 through 2016, as a camp counselor at Camp Wayne for Boys in Pennsylvania in 2016 and 2017, and as an after-school counselor at the Imogen Foundation at PS 340 in Chelsea from March 2022 through May 2022.
'Based on the charged individual’s employment history working with children in afterschool programs and summer camps, we are deeply concerned that there may be additional victims,' District Attorney Bragg said in a statement.
For those who think they are a victim of Luca's is encouraged to call DA Office’s Child Abuse Unit.
Luca was sentenced to 12 years in prison and 13 years supervised post-release.
