Costco shoppers are opening up about the items that they wouldn't ever dare to buy from the discount super store.

The retail giant is best known for offering low-cost items in bulk, with shoppers required to pay for a membership in return for gaining access to the store's many discounts.

But while Costco offers a wide array of household essentials and groceries - and boasts a legion of devoted fans - there are some products that even the most dedicated shoppers won't go near.

In a recent thread shared on Reddit, dozens of shoppers offered up their thoughts on the items to avoid whenever you're at a Costco - from milk to baked goods - and their reasons why.

Although Costco carries many affordable products in bulk, some aren't worth buying. Customers took to Reddit to advise on which products to skip in store

1: Fresh produce

This was mentioned and complained about the most in the Reddit thread.

One customer wrote: 'Produce for sure. They really aren't the best prices. Might be better quality but by the time you finish them, definitely not.'

Both the fruits and vegetables come in bulk, causing the already fragile products to go bad even more quickly, creating a lot of food waste.

2: Milk

Milk is only available in its one-gallon size in the store, which several shoppers said can lead to it expiring before they even have the time to consume it all.

Costco's Kirkland Signature milk also has a square-shaped top which easily leads to the milk getting spilled while being poured.

One person wrote on Reddit: 'Milk. We do use a lot of it but the Costco milk containers are just to big to handle.'

3: Soda

The soda prices at Costco are too high according to customers. One person wrote: 'Soda. Always on sale somewhere for less.'

Another added: 'Man soda, prices have tripled in the last few years. Used to be .99 cents to $1.29 for a two liter bottle. Now its three plus, if its not on sale. Ridiculous.'

4: Baked goods

A lot of customers are fans of Costco's baked goods, such as tuxedo chocolate mousse cake, or the chocolate chunk cookies. However, bread and bagels are a no-go for most shoppers.

One person wrote: 'Bagels. They just suck.' Another added: 'The bagels are just round mini-bread - not very authentic.'

Not only is taste an issue, but the size of packaging as well. Both bagels and bread come in larger packs, causing them to go bad and mold before purchasers can finish even half of it.

Some Reddit comments recommended freezing bread, however, many are not able to due to already limited freezer-space.

5: Eggs

Some commentators complained about the egg's pale yolk, and easily breakable thin shells.

One commented: 'Eggs. I don't think Costco eggs are very high quality compared to the ones I can get at my local grocery store. Costco is cheaper though.'

Other stores also provide smaller portions, so customers aren't forced to buy several dozen at one time.

6: Meat

The complaints about meat are not in regard to quality, but rather cost. Comments advise that better prices can be found at supermarkets or from the local butchers.

One shopper wrote: 'Boy is it expensive and if I'm buying expensive steaks, I can get better for less at my local butcher.

'And when ground beef goes on sales locally, it's half the price of Costco.

'I love Costco, and I love the convenience but let's not kid ourselves, I'm here for the savings.'
