Donte DiVincenzo 'agrees four-year, $50m New York Knicks deal'

Donte DiVincenzo has agreed a four-year, $50million deal to join the New York Knicks, according to ESPN.

In the days leading up to free agency New York had been strongly linked with DiVincenzo after he declined the $4.7 million option in his contract.

The move will significantly bolster the Knicks rotation and see DiVincenzo join up with his University of Villanova teammates in Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart.

DiVincenzo, 26, averaged 9.4 points 4.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game through 72 regular season appearances for Golden State Warriors last season.  

36 of the 72 games featured him in the Warriors starting lineup last season.

New York traded Obi Toppin to the Indiana Pacers for two second round picks earlier in the day

DiVincenzo fits the mold that the Knicks and head coach Tim Thibodeau have looked for in recent years in the form of a permitter player that provides solid 3-point shooting, strong defense, and plays with a high amount of energy.

New York's rotation on the wings already includes RJ Barrett, Quientin Grimes, Immanuel Quickley, and the aforementioned Hart.

The Knicks made a separate move earlier in the day that opened up space for DiVincenzo when they traded Obi Toppin to the Indiana Pacers for two second round draft picks.

They also were able to save money when Hart chose to opt into the final year of his contract with the Knicks, allowing them to use the full non-tax mid-level exception to sign DiVincenzo without incurring any luxury tax penalties.

DiVincenzo started his career with the Milwaukee Bucks after they took him with the No. 17 overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft and went on to start 66 regular season games during their championship winning season in 2021.

He was then traded to the Sacramento Kings at the 2022 trade deadline, before signing two-year deal with an option that was eventually declined with the Warriors.
