Alexander Volkanovski vs Yair Rodriguez LIVE: UFC 290 start time, stream, updates, undercard results

What a night. Some incredible fights at UFC 290 and it will go down in the books as one of the events of the year. 

Volkanovski took on one of the most dangerous men in the featherweight division and dominated from start to finish. One of the criticisms previously targeted at him was a lack of finishing ability but he was ruthless tonight. The right hand and follow up strikes were immaculate. Jon Jones was elevated to pound-for-pound No 1 with his win on a comeback from a long lay-off this year but surely the 'Great' deserves top spot.

The Georgian is an absolute monster and the logical next opponent. He squared off with Volk outside the cage. It stayed respectful but what a fight that could be. 

In camp there was a bit of fear there, this week I flipped the switch, I'm the champ and king of this division and nobody is ever stopping me. I knew he'd switch stance and the right hook would be good, I know I could go anywhere. I showed I can wrestle and strike with the rest of them. Sky is the limit. There's a few options, I need surgery on my arm, camp was a struggle, I'll get that as soon as I'm home and fight once more this year, I'll squash Topuria and I still want that lightweight belt. 

So clean, so clever and so strong from Volkanovski. He's just elite. He counters with a right to stun Rodriguez and then digs to the body before taking him down and landing unanswered ground and pound before Herb Dean called it off. 

Volkanovski is so dominant. He again finds a takedown and just leans on Rodriguez, exhausting him. The Mexican's corner tells him to give it everything like there's no tomorrow but the champ is seemingly in full control, landing some really heavy ground and pound elbows, he's so good on top. 

Round one is in the books for the champ. He has a considered look early on but then secures a takedown, threatens a head and arm choke and lands some heavy ground and pound. Back to the drawing board for Rodriguez, who needs to keep it on the feet. 

Of course Volkanovski comes out to Men at Work and their classic tune. It's not really the kind of song to hype you up but fits the Aussie bill perfectly. The undisputed champ is in the cage and Bruce Buffer is about to do this thing. We're moments away. 

Du Plessis and Pantoja were both underdogs tonight but managed to get the job done. It would be a real surprise if Volk was dethroned and loses for the first time at featherweight tonight but it seems to be an evening for the challengers. If Rodriguez does it, you'd think it could be by an unpredictable KO. This could be brilliant. 

The main man had some time for Mail Sport this week to discuss everything about tonight's main event against Yair Rodriguez. 

AND NEW - Pantoja is given the nod by split decision. The crowd don't like it and there are plenty of boos but I think that is the right call. 

'If you know my story, you'll love me, I've worked so hard for that. I can touch and feel this belt now,' Pantoja says.

'I worked so hard at ATT, leaving everything to come here, my family is proud of me.'

Moreno starts the better of the fifth but the stats show both men have landed 18 significant strikes. Then Pantoja gets a takedown and secures the back to control the remaining minutes and potentially wrestle the belt away. It will be fascinating to see how they score it. 

Pantoja controls the majority of the round with clinch and top position but Moreno ends it by getting back to his feet and landing some brilliant strikes including a concussive short elbow. His corner tells him the title is on the line going into the final five minutes. 

This is just a ridiculous battle. Pantoja takes Moreno down twice but is unable to do much with it other than land some savage elbows. Moreno's corner tells him he lost the round and even though he landed some heavy shots and beautiful combinations, they're probably right. 

They say a fighter improves 20 percent with the belt and Moreno looks brilliant as he comes back, making Pantoja look tired, taking his back, landing multiple left hooks and forcing the issue. It is 1-1 and the champion looks the fresher man. 

Flyweights are like wasps at a picnic. The energy is relentless and it is a statement made by the challenger in round one. He drops Moreno and cuts him open with an elbow on the ground, sensational stuff. Moreno keeps his composure and manages to get back to his feet but that round belonged to the Brazilian. 

'I will finish him and be the champ', says Pantoja. He is convinced having already beaten Moreno twice but the Mexican has come on leaps and bounds since facing tonight's opponent. 

Brandon Moreno vs Alexandre Pantoja is the next fight up - a flyweight title fight to light up Las Vegas. The Brazilian has already beaten the champion years ago so will come in with massive confidence. 

Du Plessis: 'As I dropped him, I wanted to rush but stayed calm, as I turned southpaw the jab really catches him, he hits hard and fast and sharing a cage with a legend means so much, Robert is a gentleman and I just beat a guy in the pound for pound rankings. I don't know if Adesanya is great.' 

Adesanya says: 'I don't need a DNA test to say where I'm from!' The stage is set for these two to go at it at UFC 293.

Oh my goodness! Du Plessis stops Whittaker inside two rounds. Adesanya in the crowd stares him down and we all know who is next now. The South African is just a massive tank and that is a real surprise. His athleticism and power is a real problem and Whittaker was stunned by a straight right, followed up with a barrage that ended it. 

Brilliant round. Whittaker has the cleaner work early on, landing a takedown and working his piston-like jab. But Du Plessis then muscles his way back into it with his unorthodox style, landing a great straight right and trip to end the round on top with a nasty elbow and ground and pound. 

A muscle-bound middleweight, who has a strange kind of style that some have struggled with. It remains to be seen if Du Plessis can do it against the best but he will have to do it against one of the division's real elite talents to prove himself. 

Australia were hammered by South Africa in the Rugby Championship earlier but it would be a real shock if that result was to repeat itself now. Whittaker is a brilliant fighter, one of the best in not only his division but the UFC. He's so well rounded and if Du Plessis is to have a shot against Israel Adesanya, he has to win here. 

Hooker is tough as nails and if you judge this one on damage then he probably should win. In the third, he rocks Turner despite being caught some nasty kicks, takes his man down and ends up controlling most of the five minutes. We go to the scorecards. 

Hooker is narrowly denied by the bell! Turner lands a head kick and it is a miracle that Hooker is even still standing. Then he makes it dirty, shocks the American by coming right back, landing numerous shots and sinking in a choke only for the end of the round to get in the way. 

Hooker is executing his kicks impressively, while Turner is performing better with the hands - executing a right hand with regularity before the Kiwi ends the opening stanza well. It's a close opener you wouldn't want to decide but that's exactly what the judges must do. It has the feeling of a fight both men desperately need to win and there's plenty of mutual respect. 

Turner - who missed weight this week - takes on Kiwi fan favourite Hooker. The American is 6ft 3in and it's not much of a surprise that giant struggled to make 155-pounds. Hooker is known for his toughness and is still convinced of his ability to march back up the rankings and challenge for the title. 

That was ridiculous! Nickal has hands! This man is an all-rounder and didn't even need his wrestling, he finished the fight in the first round in the pocket. Woodburn came out swinging  but got caught and had the uppercut dropped on him, ref stepping right in. 

Is the hype real? Bo Nickal takes centre stage as one of the UFC's most impressive new fighters. He is the wrestling supremo with only four pro fights and wins to his name. Nickal is tipped by many to be a future champ, but can he see his past Val Woodburn tonight. 

Robbie Lawler deserves the ovation he was given by the T-Mobile Arena crowd more than most. 'Ruthless' was the perfect nickname for him in his prime and nobody will ever forget his incredible battle with Rory McDonald. A true hero of the sport bows out tonight and he does so in incredible fashion. Lawler finishes Niko Price to walk off into the sunset in perfect style. 

What a finish! Menifield dishes out a brilliant submission to down the Aussie, who tapped very quickly as soon as he knew he was in strife.
