A man's body was found in a lake in New York's Central Park on Sunday afternoon.

It was reported to police at around 3.16pm in the Harlem Meer at the very northeast of the park, an NYPD spokesperson said.

When police first responded they discovered that a man was 'unresponsive and unconscious' and when EMS crews later arrived they pronounced the man dead.

The spokesperson said an investigation was ongoing and no explanation for his death had been determined.

An investigation into how the man died will be carried out by the Office of the Medical Examiner.

Last year just a stone's throw away from Harlem Meer a fully-clothed body was pulled from a Central Park pond.

This is a developing story.
