A dating coach has revealed how long it should take a man you're dating to ask you to be his girlfriend - warning that if it takes longer, it is unlikely that you two will become a couple.

Jacob Lucas is a UK-based coach who has used his real-life methods to 'help millions of people get the love life they have always wanted'

As well as working directly with clients, he shares dating content on TikTok, with his more than 750,000 followers. He is also the author of guidebook Her Dating Coach.

In a recent video on TikTok, he outlined a general timeline he expects most relationships to follow, giving the timeframe during which most men will ask a woman to be their girlfriend.

According to Jacob, if a man has not decided after 90 - 100 days of dating that he exclusively wants to be with a woman, '99.9 per cent of the time he will never make [her] his girlfriend'.

In the video, Jacob says: 'I am a professional dating coach. And this is how long it should take a man you are dating to ask you to be his girlfriend.

'And if he takes longer than what I said in this video, then I guarantee that 99.9 per cent of the time, he will never make you his girlfriend, so don't waste your time with him.'

Outlining the beginning of a relationship, the dating expert explains that 'the first one to three dates is just him getting to know you'.

He adds that daters should 'not expert too much' from each other at this stage.

Jacob continues: 'So, after the third date, if everything's going really well, he should stop dating other people.

'[He should] not make it official with you yet, but just stop dating other people, to see how things go.'

From this point after the third date, for 'about a month or half, two and a half months', he will be looking out to see how compatible he think the pair of you are.

Jacob explains: 'Do you have a nice time together? Do you bring peace to each other's lives? And are you going to be a great partnership as boyfriend or girlfriend?'

Over the next time period, according to the coach, a man will be thinking about whether he is compatible with the woman he is dating

He says: 'Then after about two months, two and a half months, he should know that he definitely wants to be with you, if he's a decisive high value man.

'Then, he will ask you to be his girlfriend.'

If your interactions do not follow this rough timeline, Jacob suggests the relationship may not be worth pursuing.

He explains: 'However, if he takes over three months to ask you to be his girlfriend, then you have to move on.

'That's 90 to 100 days. If a man can't decide if he wants to be with you after knowing you for that long, that's a very indecisive man, which is a very low value trait.

'But if he really likes you, he won't make you wait until the three month mark. He will ask you around two months, maybe two and a half months.'

People took to the comments section of the video to share their opinions, with some agreeing with his timeframe, others saying it was too short, and others suggesting it was too long, and that they had made their relationship official in a much shorter time period.

Revealing their own timelines, one commentator wrote: 'Took mine 3 month.'

Another said: 'No timeline, anything under 6 months is too short you don’t know someone.'

And a further TikTok user revealed revealed that they had become boyfriend and girlfriend much more quickly, writing: 'It took him a month n a half.'
