A Michigan teenager who was freed after spending 500 days in jail for the death of her dad said Oxford shooter Ethan Crumbley's mom helped write her mercy speech.
Megan Imirowicz, 19, killed her 64-year-old father, Konrad, with whom she was angry because he was too drunk to take her to a hair appointment.
She threw lye powder and water over him in October 2021, and he died from chemical burn complications in March 2022.
Imirowicz was yesterday sentenced to a year in prison with credit for time served and five years of probation during her tear-filled sentencing hearing.
Outside court, she revealed her speech to the judge and court was heavily influenced by one of her 'best friends' she made in jail - Jennifer Crumbley.
'She helped me write the things out that I didn't know how to put into words,' Imirowicz said.

Imirowicz' 'jail best friend' was Crumbley, the mother of Oxford High School's mass shooter. She 'told her to speak with her heart' and aided the teen to put her feelings into words. She is charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter because she and her husband James are accused of failing to keep the gun away from their 'troubled minor child'
Crumbley, the mother of Oxford High School's mass shooter Ethan Cumbley, 'told her to speak with her heart' and aided the teen putting her feelings into words.
The unlikely prison friendship spanned 'months' as Imirowicz toyed over how she could best convey her words for her sob-filled sentencing.

Speaking to Court TV, Imirowicz said about her sentencing speech: 'I was just in the moment. I wanted every single word to be heard and felt by everybody.
'Writing that took months, and the very last minute I finally found the words.
'So to be able to get those words out meant a lot to me. A lot was riding on them.'
When asked if she got any advice from anyone, she said it was the Oxford school shooter's jailed mother that she learned from.
'Yes. I have a best friend that's in jail and she was with me through this whole thing and she helped me with it,' the 19-year-old said. 'Jennifer Crumbley. She just told me to speak with my heart, she helped me write the things out that I didn't know how to put into words.'

Crumbley - who allegedly did not stop her son from having a gun - is pictured in court in 2021
Crumbley is the mother of the 15-year-old who killed four students and wounded seven others at Michigan’s Oxford High School in 2021.
Her son rained gunfire in the school - and pleaded guilty to one count of terrorism causing death, four counts of first-degree murder, and 19 other charges following the mass shooting.
She, however, is in prison awaiting trial for her own alleged involvement.
Jennifer Crumbley is charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter because she and her husband James are accused of failing to keep the gun away from their 'troubled minor child.'
Mass shooter Ethan Crumbley said during his plea that he gave his father the money to buy him the handgun.
Defense attorneys argue that whatever the parents did might have been considered bad parenting, but it was not the cause of the deaths.
It's alleged that the Crubmley parents tried to flee the area after the mass shooting - and that James, his father, was caught with a receipt of the murder weapon.
The parents' case was put on pause by the Michigan Supreme Court last year while they confirm if they will even stand trial for the alleged crimes. But the duo will remain in jail for the meantime.

The teen spent 500 days in a suburban Detroit jail after her father's death in March 2022
During her tearful appeal to the judge, Megan described the deep bond she had with her father and the pain of losing him.
She expressed her struggle to cope with the loss and her battles against self-harm, emphasizing that she loved her father deeply and was not the monster the prosecution portrayed her to be.
'Nineteen years ago, I was placed into the arms of the first man to ever love me, the man I'm lucky enough to call my dad. Growing up he became so much more, he was a storyteller, a tooth fairy, a friend, and hero, through it all the one thing never changed, was that he was mine,' she sobbed.
'One of the biggest things overlooked in this case is that me and my siblings lost my dad too. That loss has severely broken us.'
Megan acknowledged she had lied to conceal her father's alcoholism, preferring to protect him rather than admit his struggles.
'I get scared that he thinks I didn't love him. He told me so many things, one thing he didn't tell me was how to live without him,' she said.
Imirowicz was found guilty of using harmful devices/irritants causing death in a four-day trial presided over by Judge Victoria Valentine in June.

The teen sobbed in court upon learning of her reduced sentence.
She expressed her happiness at being able to return home to her family and revealed her shock at the leniency of the judge's decision.
'I'm really happy I get to go home with my family,' she told Law & Crime Network on Tuesday, adding: 'I'm excited.'

Imirowicz threw lye powder on her father with water to produce a chemical reaction and cause severe burns on 1 October 2021.
The powder is often used in drain cleaner and has the ability to corrode materials on contact, including metal, paint, cloth and skin. It is even more dangerous when lye is wet, as mixing it with water creates an exothermic reaction which causes a dramatic temperature increase of the water, getting up to 200F.
Prosecutors said that Imirowicz threw the power on her father because she was upset with him for being too drunk to take her to a hair appointment ahead of her 18th birthday party. Konrad is said to have been an alcoholic.
Police reported the teenager had been home when the incident began and left her father unconscious on the couch in their home before leaving the residence.
They later found the lye powder and water strewn over the couch after the 64-year-old was found by a neighbor in his Groveland Township home and was taken to the hospital.
He had suffered significant injuries, including chemical burns to the head, torso and 'extremities'.
On Tuesday, Imirowicz was reunited with her mother upon her release from the Oakland County Jail, where she had been incarcerated for the last 17 months.
'I was definitely surprise. I thought I would get three or six years, I was praying for a miracle today and that's what happened,' the teenager said.
Her mother even claimed the defense was shocked to hear the verdict.
Regarding her dad, Imirowicz said: I'm scared to feel anything about my dad right now. I miss him a lot. I'm not ready.'
'I know what happened and that didn't happen,' she added.
