A 20-year-old man has been taken into custody after at least 10 people were plowed down by a vehicle believed to have been stolen in the Bronx, New York.

The pedestrians were taken to Bellevue Hospital with non-life threatening injuries including two minors aged, 5 and 7.

One witness claimed to have seen a victim 'flying through the air' at the East 42nd and Lexington Avenue collision which reportedly involved three vehicles.

Chaotic images and video from the busy intersection show a black and red vehicle in what appears to have been a head-on collision.

Responding officers have requested additional units for traffic and crowd control and asked people to 'avoid the area' as they investigate

Another video shows one female victim being stretchered out from the area - as passers-by gawk at the active crime scene.

A woman, believed to have been a passengers in the 'stolen vehicle,' is said to have fled the area by foot and remains at large, Citizen reported.

Responding officers requested additional units for traffic and crowd control and asked people to 'avoid the area'.

The 20-year-old suspect, wearing a black vest and Adidas sweatpants pulled down to show his underwear, was seen being hauled into the 7th Street precinct on Pitt Street, where the police's IDTU (intoxicated driver testing unit) is located. 

Citizen reported that police at the scene described the female passenger who fled as white or Hispanic, approximately 100lbs with black hair.

She is thought to have been wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and black and white sneakers and was carrying a satchel when she fled westbound on 42nd St, according to Citizen reports.
