Christy Turlington has revealed why she shies away from plastic surgery and is determined to age naturally in a candid new interview.

The supermodel, 54, who has previously said she believes plastic surgery 'looks freaky' - said that she loves 'seeing a real face' in a chat with Marie Claire.

She said: 'Women who have stayed away from augmentation of themselves—those are the women I really admire. I love seeing a real face. A face of someone who’s lived life.

'I would say my beauty icons are people like Jane Birkin. They have the kind of faces I like to see, and we don’t get to see as many of those in the world anymore. Jane aged in her way. She was as beautiful at the end of her life as she was early on.

'I will be one of those faces. I am one of those faces.'

The star said she relies upon a 'very simple' skincare routine with cleanser and vitamin C for hydration in the daytime and a face balm and mask in the evening.

Christy also relies upon yoga to keep her fit, and loves to hike and run for the 'disconnectedness.'

Back in 2016 the star told Town & Country of plastic surgery: 'Maybe I would think differently if I thought it looked good and it didn’t hurt and it didn’t send bad messages to young people,' she said.

'But I’ve never seen someone who I’ve been like, "Oh, that’s a good idea." It looks freaky to me.'

Turlington first started modeling as a teen, after she was discovered by a local photographer during a trip to Miami, Florida, to visit her father.

After she turned 18, she moved to New York City to pursue the career full-time, and went on to become one of the most successful models of the '90s.

She appeared in magazines like Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Marie Claire, L'Officiel, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, and Allure, to name a few, as well as advertising campaigns for Calvin Klein, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Jacobs, Prada, Valentino, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, and Maybelline.

In addition to modeling, she also launched a series of business ventures, including a skincare line called Sundari, two clothing lines in collaboration with Puma, and a women's yoga-wear line.

She also dabbled in writing, contributing to Marie Claire, Yoga Journal, Huffington Post, and Teen Vogue over the years.

Turlington has also served as a Today show correspondent, and worked as a product tester for Apple in 2015.
