Saw X features a major change that has sparked speculation the entire franchise may be heading in a different direction. 

The horror film, which is the tenth in the series, is set to hit theaters on September 29. 

And while scary movie fans are counting down the days for its release, there have been reports that the film may mark the start of a different kind of horror movie, according to Screenrant. 

After the trailer for the horror film was released, people noticed that the villain was painted in a sympathetic light, and began to wonder if the spooky theme of the franchise was at risk.

The other films in the franchise have shown the killer John Kramer, or Jigsaw, who is played by Tobin Bell, tormenting and murdering his victims. 

The movies have become horror lovers' dreams as they are filled with gory aspects. 

However, as per the site for movie news and reviews, Saw X has shifted the narrative and made the villain the hero, according to director Kevin Greutert. 

The trailer for the film, which was released on July 29, reveals that Jigsaw draws his sights on a group of medical professionals this time around. 

This is because Jigsaw needs medical attention before he can continue murdering people.  

However, they all pretended to cure him. 

Jigsaw then tortures them.

According to Screenrant, this is making him a character people can sympathize with, which can put the franchise at risk. 

In the past, Jigsaw has been a traditional villain. 

And this portrayal may dilute his horrifying nature that fans are used to seeing.
