A young Australian woman living in the U.S. who complained about the number of American flags displayed across the country has drawn a rebuke from one of America's top politicians.

In a video shared to TikTok, Mia Chloe wanders along a suburban street and expresses her objection to what she considers an excessive display of patriotism.

'I'm just gonna say it... there are too many American flags,' she said.

'They're on houses, they're on cars... saw them on couch cushions...'

Mia, who goes by handle @meanderwithmedia, on TikTok, compared the visibility of national flags in the U.S. compared to Australia.

'You're the only country that I know that does this,' she remarked.

'The only time I've seen an Australian flag is on the [Sydney] Harbour Bridge... [I] could not tell you what it looks like.'

'I know it's, like, blue and it's got some stars on it,' she added.

'I think I could draw the American flag from memory... I think I can make a bloody sculpture out of it.

'That's how many bloody times I've seen it.'

The fed-up Aussie urged Americans to 'pull back' on putting up flags everywhere.

'It's enough,' she said. 'Let's stay humble.'

The woman's TikTok video caught the attention of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who had a blunt message for the young Aussie.

'Go back to Australia,' he tweeted in response to the video, adding a series of U.S. flag emojis

It appears the woman's TikTok account has since been deactivated after the backlash.

The video, reposted on Twitter by the influential right-wing account Libs of TikTok, racked up plenty of comments.

'I'm going to put out another flag,' one American wrote.

'Merica baby'!' added another.

However, some agreed with the Aussie's views.

'As a person who was born in Houston, I respect this,' one said.

'It's not just America's love for the USA - it's a culture of broad-patriotism,' another wrote.

One person said they understood her confusion because flag-waving patriotism is not so common Down Under.

'People wearing the college teams or the high school mascot shirts. Being proud of your town, your organisations, your church, your clubs - doesn't exist in Australia,' they tweeted.
