Nestlé recalls Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie dough after customers find WOOD CHIPS in their snacks

Nestlé USA has initiated a recall of several its Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough 'break and bake' bars - after consumers complained of finding wood fragments in the snack slabs.

The announcement, issued last week, saw two batches of the cookie dough-laced deserts pulled from shelves, after 'a small number of consumers' reached out to the Virginia  food firm about the issue.

The alert, which was also aired by the FDA, cited the 'potential presence of wood fragments' as the reason behind the recall. Officials further clarified it was made voluntarily and out of an abundance of caution.

While it is unknown how many of the 16.5 ounce snacks have been nixed, Nestlé said the batches in question were produced on April 24 and 25 of this year.

Customers concerned over the contents of the cookie-like delights, they said, can look out for one of two codes that identify the supposedly bad batches - which officials Thursday said only have the 'potential' of being contaminated.

'Nestlé USA is initiating a voluntary recall of a limited quantity of Nestlé Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough "break and bake" bar products due to the potential presence of wood fragments,' they said in a statement.

'This voluntary recall is isolated to two batches of Nestlé Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough “break and bake” Bar products that were produced on April 24 and 25, 2023,' the alert added, noting the product was only distributed at retailers in the US.

'While no illnesses or injuries have been reported, we are taking this action out of an abundance of caution after a small number of consumers contacted Nestlé USA about this issue.

'This recall does not involve any other Nestlé Toll House products, including other varieties of refrigerated cookie dough in “break and bake” bars, rolls, or tubs, or Edible cookie dough.

'We are confident that this is an isolated issue and we have taken action to address,' the company said, adding that it currently is working with the FDA to address the issue.

Batch codes to keep an eye out for, officials said, are 311457531K and 311557534K - identifiers that can be found on the food product's side packaging.

Consumers who have purchased potentially polluted products are advised not to consume them, and to return them to the point of purchase for either a non-corrupted replacement or full-on refund.

'The quality, safety and integrity of our products remain our number one priority,' the company, which went through a voluntary recall late last year, added.

The recall comes months after Nestlé issued a voluntary recall for its refrigerated, ready-to-bake Nestlé Toll House Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough with Fudge Filling - due to the 'potential presence of white plastic pieces'

'We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this action represents to both our consumers and retail customers.'

Consumers were also instructed to contact Nestlé USA's toll-free hotline - at 1800-681-1678 - for any further assistance.

This is not the first recall from Nestlé in recent months, with the American arm of the Swiss conglomerate - the largest publicly held food firm in the world - pulling several of its products from shelves about 10 months ago.

Products in question in that case were the ready-to-bake Nestlé Toll House Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough with Fudge Filling, which unlike the cookie dough bars, are meant to be eaten after being warmed in the oven.

The true extent of that callback - which too was made voluntarily - was also not specified, but brass said the potentially plastic-laden products were made between June and September 2022.

In that instance, they were sold in the continental United States, but Puerto Rico as well.

The FDA's investigation into what spurred the latest recall, meanwhile, is still underway. DailyMail.com has reached out to the agency for comment.
