A professional storm chaser has revealed his newly built Mississippi hurricane bunker, which is capable to withstanding 200mph winds.

Josh Morgerman, also known as iCyclone, told Fox News that he was on a mission to build a home capable of withstanding category-five hurricane winds.

Morgerman's new build, in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, sits 23 feet above sea level which he said will help to fight back any storm surge flooding.

The interior has been reinforced and he has had a roof capable of battling 200mph winds added.

According to Morgerman, 53, Bay St. Louis is ground zero for hurricanes with the town previously being devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Camille.

Speaking to Fox, Morgerman said: 'I’ve seen this happen a lot in buildings and in houses during hurricanes.

'Everything is fine until one window breaks and the wind gets in, and it’s like a balloon it gets in and starts to sort of like wreak havoc and maybe blow the roof off.'

In order to combat this, Morgerman has had the frame bolted to the foundation and reinforced the home from all angles.

He continued: 'Making sure that the frame of the house is bolted down to the foundation and making sure the roof is bolted down to the top plate, those are some really important things.

'Really focusing on those connecting points with straps with clips and using a lot of them, it’s just a simple thing that everybody can do.'

As well as the reinforced interior, the house sits 23ft above sea level to fight storm surges.

He said: 'This is one of the things that is going to give me an edge when it comes to storm surge flooding.

'The floor of the house is pretty high up, there could be events when the storm surge actually reaches the property but the house is okay.'

The contractor with Paramount Contracting Beau Ladner said building resilient homes is gaining popularity.

Lander told the outlet: 'It’s starting to get more popular because of the insurance prices.

'People are starting to catch notice and say, hey if I do this I can save 30% on my insurance.

'I can spend four or five thousand dollars now and save me 30% over the lifespan of my house.

The Federal Alliance for Safe Homes President & CEO Leslie Chapman-Henderson said: 'He’s building a home, and he’s using our nation’s highest standard to do so.

'We are really happy to see him do that he’s spreading the word about how important it is.

'Whether a home is hurricane proof time will tell. But if any house has a shot at being hurricane resistant or hurricane proof this one does.'

Morgerman hopes to have finished construction on the home in the fall and that the building will withstand the next storm thrown at the Gulf Coast.
