Missouri prisoners took a 70-year-old guard hostage demanding 'pizza and chicken patties' as they criticized minimal hot food options for inmates.
Police say the guard was injured and unarmed. He'd been taken hostage on the fourth floor of the Justice Center just after 6am on Tuesday morning and only released several hours later.
The guard was released at 8:30am Fox 2 Now reported, but a standoff appears to not be over - as authorities continue to surround the building.
Sources told KFVS12 that the prisoners have been demanding 'pizza and chicken patties amid complaints there isn't enough hot food' although this has not been confirmed by officials.
The guard was placed in an ambulance and taken to hospital for treatment, his condition remains unclear.
Several police vehicles are on scene, along with the St. Louis SWAT Team.
This is a developing story.
