Ryan Clinkunbroomer's fiancée has spoken publicly for the first time since the Sheriff's Deputy was shot and killed in his patrol car last weekend.

Heartbroken Brittany Lindsey, who became engaged to Clinkunbroomer, 30, just four days before his death told a press conference on Wednesday how 'Ryan was the best guy I've ever met'.

Clinkunbroomer was found shot near the intersection of Sierra Highway and Avenue Q in Palmdale over the weekend in what officials have called a targeted ambush.

The fallen deputy's coffin was laid to rest on Wednesday after a solemn procession lined by fellow officers.

The suspected shooter Kevin Salazar, 29, was arrested at his family's Palmdale home early on Monday following an hours-long standoff with police.

Upon arrival in Covina his flag-draped casket was escorted to the mortuary by his family.

Speaking on Wednesday next to Clinkunbroomer's parents, Kim and Mike, Lindsey said 'He was so thoughtful, caring, and everyone who met him or knew him loved him. I'm so happy I was able to love him. It was not long enough' she said through tears.

'I couldn't wait to start our lives together.

'We were just engaged. Planning to get married and start a family.

'Ryan, I miss you. And I love you so much. I don't know how to live without you. I didn't ever want to imagine it.'

Fighting back tears she asked her fiancée to 'look down on all your brothers and sisters and blue. Keep them safe, so this never happens to anyone else.

'Protect them and watch over them as they continue to serve their community. Until we meet again.'

Salazar's attorney entered dual pleas of not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity on Wednesday.

Los Angeles police officer Ryan Clinkunbroomer's alleged killer Kevin Salazar, 29, has pled not guilty by reason of insanity to his murder

Los Angeles police officer Ryan Clinkunbroomer's alleged killer Kevin Salazar, 29, has pled not guilty by reason of insanity to his murder

If Salazar is found guilty, there would be a second trial to decide whether he is insane or not.

If a jury finds he is insane, he will be sent to a state hospital or facility for treatment.

His family claimed he has a history of mental health issues and was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia before he shot the officer, who had gotten engaged just days before he was gunned down.

Salazar's mother, Marle, said the alleged killer was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic five years ago. She added that she even called the Sheriff's Department at least tice when he refused to take his medication and became aggressive.

'My son is mentally ill, and if he did something, he wasn't in his full mental capacity,' she told The Los Angeles Times. 'They're only saying that he was the one that shot the deputy, but nobody is saying he has a record for needing mental help.'

Salazar claimed he heard voices and that people were following him on the streets, according to his mom, who added her son would act hysterical or like he was five years old on such episodes.

He also reportedly attempted suicide twice and was hospitalized over the last year. Marle said she thought he had been doing better and stopped taking his medication about 10 months ago.

Despite his history of mental health issues, Marle confirmed Salazar owned a gun, which he purchased legally.

Police confirmed they received two separate reports of road rage incidents involving Salazar the same day Clinkunbroomer was killed.

Salazar was with his relatives at his family home after the shooting, and his mom said he did not appear nervous or show any signs he had been involved in the shooting.

Sheriff Robert Luna said during a press conference announcing Salazar's arrest on Monday that community leaders came forward with information that led them to the suspect and his vehicle.

Salazar refused to come out of the home for hours and only surrendered after police released chemical agents.

Luna has said he believes the shooting was a 'targeted attack,' but the motive, and whether Clinkunbroomer or the department in general was the target, remains unclear.
