Pittsburgh Steelers' flight makes emergency landing in Kansas City due to engine issues en route home from Las Vegas

The Pittsburgh Steelers' jet was forced to make an emergency landing in Kansas City early this morning as the team headed back home after a win on the road in Las Vegas.

The team's charter flight, an Airbus A330-900, took off from Sin City at 9pm last night but at 5am suffered an oil pressure failure.

Pilots immediately took action, setting the plane down in an emergency landing in Kansas City after liaising with air traffic control.

The plane was met on the tarmac by firetrucks and emergency responders as a precaution but no one on board was injured.

Steelers' Senior Director of Communications Burt Lauten wrote on X following the incident: 'Our team charter plane was unexpectedly diverted to Kansas City early this morning on our way back to Pittsburgh following our game in Las Vegas. 

'Everyone on the plane is safe, and we are making necessary plans to arrive back in Pittsburgh later today.'

The team was originally scheduled to arrive in Pittsburgh around 5:30am EDT after improving to 2-1 by holding off the Raiders.

Veteran defensive tackle Cam Heyward had a little fun with the situation, joking on X with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and pop star Taylor Swift that the team needed a ride to Pittsburgh. 

Swift attended Kansas City's blowout victory over Chicago on Sunday as a guest of Kelce's.

The Steelers were given Monday off by head coach Mike Tomlin. They travel to Houston on Oct. 1
