A California youth football coach has been arrested after he allegedly punched a player during a game, causing the teen to suffer a seizure and a concussion.

Harlem Kaowili, 14, was struck by Murietta Broncos coach Eibylardo Funes, 50, at the end of a game with the Perris Panthers Saturday at Murietta Vista High School.

The boy's mother, Neenah Kaowili, sobbed as she told NBC4 about the terrifying moment she watched a coach become physical with her child.

'To watch him seize and pass out because another adult; I can understand children, but this was an adult who intentionally hit my child in front of me,' Neenah said.

'What happens if we don't get the old Harlem back? What do we do? You get suspended from your league and a slap on the wrist and my son has to deal with this for the rest of his life,' Neenah said through tears.

Funes was suspended and banned from the Murietta Youth Football Team and was arrested on suspicion of child abuse with possible great bodily injury and battery.

According to the Murietta Police Department, officers reported to the scene for reports of an fight at the game between the two teams.

Upon arrival, cops discovered that an altercation involving parents, coaches, and the teams had broken out for unknown reasons.

During that altercation, police say Funes struck Kaowili in the face, resulting in an injury to his eye and symptoms that appeared to be consistent with a concussion.

Police told DailyMail.com the matter remains under investigation at this time.

Meanwhile, the distraught mother first posted about the shocking assault on Facebook Sunday afternoon, sharing her anger over the Funes' alleged actions.

'This coach purposely full force intentionally caused injury and harm to my CHILD! He was then protected by his staff, parents, and team,' Neenah wrote.

She called for officials with the high school to reconsider letting the youth sports team - which is independent of the school - to revoke field privileges.

Neenah also said Pechanga Casino's sponsorship of the team should be rescinded following the horrific attack.

'VistaMurrieta Chapter needs to give answers as to why this adult is a COACH, and allowed to be in the presence of Children when he can NOT keep himself CALM!!!'

'He is to bring motivation, education, and teach by example. This is not the example that should be taught to CHILDREN,' the mother wrote.

In addition to the physical damage done, Neenah claimed that her 10-year-old and her four-year-old suffered emotional trauma seeing their brother hurt.

'This is NOT OK! This is UNACCEPTABLE!!! Our Family is Hurting!!! I will NOT STOP!'

'He is to bring motivation, education, and teach by example. This is not the example that should be taught to CHILDREN,' the mother wrote in a Facebook post

Accompanying the post, she shared a video of what appears to be her sitting by Harlem's side on the field after witnessing the incident from the sidelines.

One person can be heard in the short clip screaming for an ambulance while Harlem lies on the turf and breathes shallow breaths.

'Harlem, wake up, wake up, Harlem,' one person is heard saying repeatedly.

According to witnesses who spoke with NBC 4, both teams had been agitated throughout the game at plays called by the referee.

It remains unclear what led to the coach becoming physical with the player.

The Murrieta Youth Football commissioner told the outlet he does not condone any violence and apologized to Harlem and his family for the attack.

The unnamed coach has been suspended and banned from the team.

Harlem's mother and his fellow players on the Perris Panthers Youth Football Team say that is not enough and they want the team to be disbanded.

'They don't deserve to play football if that's how they are going to play and that's the image they are going to keep,' Neenah said.

The incident sparked widespread outrage online from parents and

'Ohhhh helllll no,' wrote one person on Neenah's Facebook post.

'I’m so sorry this happened! Take him to press charges and take him to court! He shouldn’t be let around any more children,' another wrote.

'Get yourself a really good lawyer you have a good case,' a third added.

Funes is facing one felony charge and one misdemeanor charge.

He is next scheduled to appear in a Riverside County courtroom on November 3.
