The body of a 48-year-old grandmother has been found buried in the woods near Atlanta, Georgia, two days after she was reported missing by families.

Aimee Lafakis, 48, was last contacted by text at around 2am Friday, but never came back home. Her body remains were found in a wooded area in Dacula, about 30 miles from Brookhaven, according to the Brookhaven Police Department.

Her ex-boyfriend Brandon Wineinger, 43, has been arrested on felony charges including kidnapping, burglary, concealing the death of another, tampering with evidence, and giving false statements.

Lafakis' best friend Faith Corbin told 11Alive that she had spoken to her Wednesday night, two days before she went missing.

'She was going through some tough times we had talked about it,' Corbin said, adding that she was offering advice regarding Wineinger.

'Aimee was the one to get me out of the same situation she was in just with someone else, so it hit extremely close to home,' Corbin said.

Lafakis was supposed to have dinner with her daughter Friday night, but never showed up.

Her daughter Scarlett rushed to her home when she didn't show or answer her phone, but only saw Lafakis' car parked outside the MAA Glen apartment complex - her last known location, the FOX5 reported.

Investigators spent hours interviewing residents at the apartment complex Saturday, including Wineinger, who made false statements which led to his arrest.

'Wineinger was interviewed at police headquarters and ... made several statements that were proven to be false,' Brookhaven police said in a statement, only citing charges of giving false statements and tampering with evidence.

Brookhaven investigators were notified Sunday when the body of a woman had been found on Drowning Creek Road in Gwinnett County.

On Monday, the police confirmed that the discovered remains belong to Lafakis.

Lafaskis, a mother and a grandmother, was 'was well-known and loved in her community,' Doug Adams, a family member, told Atlanta News First on Sunday.

'She would do anything for her daughters,' Adams said, 'they need her.'

After talking to several family members, authorities made the arrest and brought charges against Wineinger.

'It literally makes my stomach hurt to know that this guy took her and discarded her like she was trash and she was alone by herself for days,' Corbin said.

She added: 'that’s the hardest part because Aimee would never ever ever let that happen to anyone else.'
