Simone Biles struggled to remember how to do a basic cartwheel when she previously appeared on LIVE, co-host Kelly Ripa has revealed.

The 26-year-old is now the most decorated female or male gymnast ever, having added four gold medals and one silver to her unrivaled haul.

On Sunday, Biles claimed a third and fourth gold medal at the 2023 gymnastics world championships, winning the women's balance beam and floor finals in dominant fashion.

But when she was a guest on LIVE - shortly after first 'storming the Olympics' - the gymnast drew a blank when asked to demonstrate basic moves.

'This is when you know somebody's skill set is so developed and so advanced,' Ripa recalled.

'We wanted her to teach us how to do a cartwheel and she looked at us and said: "What's a cartwheel?"

'Because that's so far in the rearview mirror of what she does that she had to stop and think about what it means. Like, what a cartwheel means to somebody like us. To her, that's just a connective movement into a tumbling path.'

Ripa continued: 'We were like: "Just teach us how to do a cartwheel." And she was going back to her preschool brain or her three-year-old brain because that's when that lesson was.'

The world championships were Biles' first international competition since her two-year break from the sport. During the Tokyo Olympics, she suffered from the twisties - a terrifying mental block that causes athletes to lose track of their position in mid-air.

'You know what I love about this story?' co-host Mark Consuelos asked. 'She had that horrible thing that came over her during the last Olympics — the twisties, right? She came back and she fought through it. I love that.'
