A top dermatologist has weighed in on whether or not you're using the right soap for your body and skin type.
Dr. Lindsey Zubritsky, who boasts more than one million followers as the popular @dermguru on TikTok, specializes in general medical dermatology, surgical dermatology, cosmetics, and pediatric dermatology at her practice in Mississippi.
Taking to TikTok in August, Dr. Zubritsky broke down exactly what soap products you should be using for your skin type while taking a shower or bath, kicking it off with guidance for those with back acne.
'If you're dealing with this situation, you've got some body, chest acne, use something like this, benzoyl peroxide, five to 10 per cent,' she explained, pulling up a picture of PanOxyl's Acne Foaming Wash.

Dr. Zubritsky kicked off the video by sharing what to do for back acne, recommending PanOxyl's acne foaming wash
Benzoyl peroxide is an over-the-counter medication taken to help acne symptoms, it targets the skin and the hair follicles, per the National Library of Medicine.
It is commonly used in many over-the-counter and high-end skincare products, with brands like Kate Somerville and Peter Thomas Roth employing it in their topical creams and washes.
Similarly, if you've been dealing with boils under the arms, or have a condition called Hidradenitis Suppurativa (a chronic skin condition that sees lumps showing up on the skin), plain ol' Dial soap will do the trick.
'Antibacterial helps to reduce the bacteria on the skin, which can trigger HS or boils,' the dermatologist advised.
Dial Soap promises to thoroughly cleanse the area as well as leaving it feeling soft and supple.
However, if you're dealing with fungal acne, which is a yeast infection in the hair follicles, per Cleveland Clinic, neither of the above options will work for you, Zubritsky warned.
'You need to make sure that you're targeting that fungus with an antifungal shampoo, something like Nizoral or ketoconazole,' she said.
Nizoral is a product that's available over-the-counter at drugstore retailers across the country.
Dr. Zubritsky also advised what soap to use if suffering from perioral dermatitis or rosacea, recommending one that contains sulfur

Dr. Zubritsky also covered what products to use for perioral dermatitis or rosacea, showing an example picture on the screen.
'A bar of sulfur soap is going to be your BFF,' she declared, flashing a photo of an anti-acne soap by the brand Joesoef.
Last but not least, for those who suffer from keratosis pilaris, also known as 'chicken skin' on the back of your arms and legs, the guidelines are basic.
'You need to make sure that you're using some sort of very gentle exfoliating body wash, like this with a salicylic acid,' she said, recommending one by the brand Naturium.
'The right soap could make or break you,' she wrote in the caption of the video.

In September, Zubritsky followed up by posting a 'part two' to the original series, beginning with advice about what to do to treat dark underarms.
'If this is your situation, you're dealing with dark underarms, this cleansing bar, you need it,' she said, as she showed off a picture of the Urban Skin Rx Even Tone Cleansing Bar.
The cleansing bar claims that its a three-in-one product — a cleanser, mask and exfoliator that will 'target uneven skin tone.'
'It is full of so many skin lightning ingredients, I swear by this one,' the dermatologist added.
Next on her recommendations list was what type of soap to use if you suffer from razor bumps on your skin.
'If you're dealing with razor bumps, this could be in the bikini area, under the neck, this is my girl right here,' Zubritsky said, as she put up a photo of the CeraVe SA Body Wash for Rough and Bumpy Skin on the screen.
'It's gentle, it exfoliates, it's gonna treat and prevent these bumps,' she continued.

Dr. Zubritsky recommended using a gentle wash, like the Gentle Foaming Moisturizing Wash from La Roche-Posay, to help ease symptoms
In the clip, Zubritsky also got a bit cheeky and advised what people with butt acne, aka folliculitis, should be washing with.
'I swear by PanOxyl,' the dermatologist said, echoing her sentiment in the first video.
'Benzoyl peroxide wash is gonna reduce that bacteria on the skin that causes that folliculitis.'
Finally, for those who have sensitive skin or suffer from eczema, Zubritsky recommended using both the Dove Irritation Care Body Wash or the La Roche-Posay Gentle Foaming Moisturizing Wash.
Both options are available in big-name retailers around the U.S., such as Target.
In the comments section of the second video, which she had also uploaded to Instagram Reels, many fellow dermatologists seemed to co-sign on her extensive knowledge.
'Panoxyl is a great option for body acne,' Texas-based derm Dr. Andrea Suarez wrote.
Dr. Jenny Liu, based in Minnesota, also agreed, typing, 'Love BPO too!!'
'Love all these recos,' Dr. Forum Patel, a dermatologist in California, commented.
