A homeless home intruder was captured on video speaking to an 89-year-old man  in his living room moments before allegedly murdering him.

Chuong Pham was found dead in his Garden Grove, Los Angeles, home after Mario Brancato, 26, broke in on Wednesday.

Police found Brancato being held down on the ground by Pham's neighbors at the scene. He was arrested and booked at the Orange County Jail.

Pham's son Khanh was alerted to the situation when he looked at their Ring Security Camera and saw the stranger yelling at his father and rummaging through the apartment.

The elderly man's other son, Khanh, headed to the apartment and found Pham lying in a pool of blood on the floor with his hands tied with an electrical cord.

Pham's family has said they do not know the intruder.

'That's a question I want to know. Where is this guy coming from? What is he doing here? Why did he kill the old man, who is sick? There's nothing here in the house,' Khan told CBS News.

Security footage shows Pham wearing what appears to be a neck brace during his interaction with the intruder.

Brancato reportedly stayed in the living room for as long as 40 minutes before he and Pham went into a bedroom.

When Pham did not come out of the room, his son Khanh headed home.

He found Pham in a bedroom unresponsive and the intruder still inside the home.

The attacker then reportedly left the apartment, but was stopped by two neighbors who wrestled him to the ground until police arrived.

There were no weapons found at the scene, and police say they don't know where Brancato is from or why he attacked Pham.

LA has been plagued by a recent spate of break-ins.

Last week, an intruder was arrested after bursting into a home while a family slept inside and yelling 'Free Palestine.'

One of the homeowners called 911 during the home invasion, and said a man had broken in through the door where she was with her husband and four children.

Weeks before, Oscar-winning hairstylist Beatrice De Alba, 59, shot a man after he reportedly tried to break into her mansion in the Hollywood Hills.

California is home to nearly a third of the nation’s homeless population, according to federal data. About two-thirds of California’s homeless population is unsheltered, meaning they live outside, often packed into encampments in major cities and along roadways.

LA has one of the nation’s largest unhoused populations. Those living on the streets, in shelters or in vehicles has ballooned in recent years.

A federally required January count estimated that on any given night there were more than 75,500 unhoused people in the county, with well over 46,000 of them in the LA city limits. About a third of them said they had substance abuse issues.

Since 2015, homelessness has increased by 70 percent in the county and 80 percent in the city.
