The Los Angeles Police Department discovered a massive haul of weapons and tactical gear - including ghost guns and a ghillie suit - in the apartment of man who was later freed on $35,000 bail.

Roy Allen Henson, 39, was charged with discharging a firearm and gross negligence after police responding to reports of gunfire found a weapons factory in his downtown LA apartment.

Neighbors reported hearing gunfire just before 1 am on Saturday. Police heard an additional 15 to 20 shots when they arrived on scene.

Henson was released on a $35,000 bail on Sunday, according to police.

Cops said there was no indication that Henson was planning an attack with the weaponry - which included manufactured 'ghost guns' and parts, a ghillie suit, and tactical armor.

A bomb squad was called to the scene and discovered a grenade inside the home but it turned out to be a replica, ABC7 reported.

'A shots fired in a #DTLA building call to @911LAPD generated a radio call for @LAPDCentral. A quick response #Communication and superior #tactics led to the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of a cache of #weapons!' Lillian L. Carranza, LAPD Asst. Commanding Operations Central Bureau announced on X.

'Thank you @LAPD_GND Gun Unit for the support! It appears we had manufacturing of Assault Weapon, poss of Ghost Guns and several other violations.'

'We are so lucky to have these brace men and women protecting L.A. No one was injured during this call. The suspect complied with the officers orders. #LAPD #ComplyNowComplainLater The #relentless pursuit continues ...' she added.

Henson does not appear to have a prior criminal history involving violent offences.

Personal and other thefts have increased 14 percent this year in LA and are up 42 percent from this time two years ago, according to Cal Matters.

LAPD has downsized in recent years. The police force' ranks are now just more than 9,000 and dropping from 10,000 last year.

Just this weekend, an LA father pulled a gun on two masked intruders who attempted to break into his house.

The father, who has not been identified, was approached by one of the masked robbers from behind as he walked up to his home in the affluent Mid-City neighborhood around 7:30pm on Saturday.

The homeowner then reached for his gun and started a shootout with the intruders.

'There was nothing in my house that was worth dying for. But I was willing to die for my family,' the man told KABC.

He added that his five-month-old baby, wife and nanny were all in the house at the time of the incident. The average house price in Mid-City is more than $1m.

The terrifying incident comes as crime in Democrat-run Los Angeles has soared following the defund police movement. The lax law enforcement has sparked an exodus of residents to Republican states such as Texas and Florida.

Home surveillance footage shows the moment the man locks his car in his driveway and starts to look for his keys, with a beverage in his other hand.

That's when the two intruders jump over the moving fence that surrounds the home and one of them runs up behind the homeowner.

The father, a white, middle-aged male quickly turns around, throws his hot tea at the suspect just before he pulls out his gun from his pants and starts shooting at both intruders.

As shots rain down, the two masked assailants scatter as one fires back at the homeowner.

The father then follows one suspect who hops over the side fence, while the other hops over the front gate and flees the scene.

He he said that 'out of nowhere' he felt someone behind him put a pistol to his back.

The father and his family filed a police report with LAPD's Olympic Division.

DailyMail.com contacted the LAPD and they said there has been no update on the investigation at this time.

'It's a matter of time before these people get caught. I think they should just pick a new career before they do end up in jail,' the father told KABC.

The homeowner was not sure if he struck either of the intruders, but he told Fox11 that if anyone else tried to harm him and his family again, 'they're going to die for trying to come in this house.'

There were 718 robberies in LA between October 1 to October 28 according to crime statistics.

So far in 2023 there have been 7,111 robberies in the region, already higher than the number of robberies reported in 2022.

Overall crime rates in the Golden State have soared in recent times as flash mobs and looters have raided storefronts.

A rise in homelessness and drug addiction has also plagued the area and has contributed to the uptick in crime.
