Moment Army vet saves pregnant woman from being carjacked at Starbucks drive-thru in Florida

A pregnant Florida woman was saved from being carjacked when a retired Army officer jumped to catch the suspect and held on till police arrived. 

Shane Spicer saw 'convicted career criminal' Michael Prouty, 39, in a high-speed car chase with the police and allegedly running up to the unidentified woman's car in a Starbucks drive-through.

As soon as Spicer realized what was happening, dashcam footage shows the retired officer jumping into the passenger seat of the woman's car and pulling him out.

'He didn’t look like a Starbucks coffee drinker,' Spicer said.

Footage shows the Army veteran holding Prouty in a vice-like grip while officers from the Ocala Police Department arrived at the scene.

Prouty has a criminal record that dates back to 2000 which includes 13 felony convictions.

Prouty allegedly had broken into someone's house and stolen their car, which he went on to crash at a busy intersection and had started running towards the drive-through. 

Spicer told Fox35: 'Just getting started with the day, had maybe been awake 20 to 25 minutes. I live about a mile from that Starbucks. 

'Sprinting up to Starbucks, and he didn’t look like a Starbucks coffee drinker.' 

When he saw Prouty running, Spicer thought: 'I’m going to get you, buddy! You’re not going anywhere now! You crossed the line!'

The Army veteran went on to tell the channel: 'I feel like if you’ve got the ability to watch out for someone, that you should. 

'I would just hope that someone would do the same for my family.'

When he saw Prouty running, Spicer thought: 'I’m going to get you, buddy! You’re not going anywhere now! You crossed the line!'

His girlfriend and young daughter were both in the car when the incident took place.  

The unidentified woman is reportedly six months pregnant and reached out to Spicer to thank him. 

After being arrested, Prouty was charged with fleeing and eluding, attempted carjacking, a crash involving injuries and resisting arrest by the Ocala Police Department. 

He was also charged in Sumter County with home invasion, battery on a person over 65 and grand theft of a vehicle. 

Prouty had been released from prison in February after serving five years on other robbery charges.
