A woman lost control of her Tesla on Friday, hitting a curb and hurtling 50ft through the air before plowing into the kitchen of a California home.

Dramatic photographs show the trail of destruction left by the 70-year-old when her EV flew over the front yard and swimming pool before ending up embedded in the wall of the home in Bay Area city of San Mateo.

Officials from the local police and fire departments were dispatched to the scene at the intersection of Murphy and Ashwood Drive at around 7.10am.

Though the front wall of the house was obliterated, no-one was inside at the time and the female driver and her passenger also remarkably escaped unscathed.

The driver, who has not been identified, and her 40-year-old daughter who was in the passenger seat, stayed at the scene while cops began investigating.

San Mateo Police Department told DailyMail.com the driver was unfamiliar with the Tesla Model X and had not driven any vehicles in about a year.

They added that the cause of the collision hasn't been determined, nor the speed the car was traveling at before it smashed through a brick wall.

Witnesses said they saw the Tesla slow to a stop before accelerating very quickly - while officers said it was heading downhill but wasn't in self-driving mode.

Police said they notified the homeowner and her daughter came to the scene. She identified herself as Meredith Donato to KTVU.  Donato said she was 'honestly just amazed that no-one was hurt'.

'If my mother was in the house, she would absolutely have been drinking her tea at 7 a.m. in the kitchen,' she said.

'There's obviously property damage, but at the end of the day it's just stuff.'

DailyMail.com has contacted San Mateo Police Department for more information.
