A senior at Gainesville High School in Georgia is in a coma after being hit in the head by a baseball bat.
Jeremy Medina, a pitcher and catcher for the school's 2022 baseball team,was injured Monday, November 20 at 1:20 p.m. on the school grounds.
Gainesville City School System said Medina was accidentally struck in the head by a baseball bat while at the batting cage on campus.
The district said he was 'critically injured' and is at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he is in a coma.
'Jeremy and his family are firm believers in Jesus Christ and His redemptive love, and are requesting prayer during this extremely difficult time,' said Gainesville City School System.

'The entire Gainesville community is devastated by the news. School administrators, the team and coaches are in contact with the family,' the district said, reported Alive 11.
Details of how the accident occured have not been revealed.
Nearby team, Chestatee High School Baseball said, 'We are praying for our neighbor and baseball friend at Gainesville.'
'The baseball community is tight and We send all our love and prayers to the players, coaches and Gainesville Baseball family.'
Adam Miller, a coach of Medina's posted on Facebook, 'Jeremy Medina is one of the finest kids I’ve ever coached. Great kid, great teammate, and great ball player.'
'His smile and love for the game is something I’ll never forget. He and his family have been a blessing to me. Truly great people that love God and trust in his plan for all of us. Pray for him!! He is a difference maker.'
