Brazilian Tinder swindler, 35, is jailed for two years for 'scamming seven women including a teacher he stole $28,000 from' - before being arrested in wild police chase

A Brazilian conman has been sentenced to 28 months for scamming a woman he met on a Tinder date.

Renan Gomes, 37, was also instructed to pay the victim $4,050, the São Paulo Public Ministry announced Wednesday.

Gomes created profiles on multiple dating apps, including Inner, Happn and Loovo, under a fake name, Augusto Keller, and targeted at least seven upper-middle class women.

He claimed he was an engineer and that he was the son of German parents who had died in an accident.

São Paulo prosecutor Paulo Ferreira described Gomes as a 'sentimental embezzler,' according to court documents.

Gomes told the victim in question that he needed a loan for about $3,449 to cover personals debts.

The woman obliged and wired him the money on three separate occasions before he vanished.

Authorities had been searching for Gomes since December 2001 and apprehended him in September 2022 following a wild police chase in which he wrecked his vehicle.

He would tell his victims that he was single and had no children and that he lived in the São Paulo City upscale neighborhood of Jardins.

'I've been single for a year,' Gomes' Tinder profile read. 'I joined the app looking for a serious relationship, if you're looking for sex or fun, please skip my profile.'

Wednesday's sentence was tacked on to the four years and six months prison term that a court handed down in February for embezzlement.

Gomes, who is in pre-trial detention, will not be able to appeal the latest verdict.

One victim recalled seeing Gomes' profile on a dating app and met him at a mall for their first date.

The woman said he was working on starting up his own business and asked her to become a partner. She loaned him $20,285 in cash before he went missing.

She described Gomes as 'a very affectionate, careful man, who makes you look like a queen. He treats his wife like a queen.'

Another victim introduced Gomes to his mother while they were dating and allowed him to borrow $3,245 before he disappeared.

There was also another woman, who was identified as a teacher, who dated him for four months in 2021 and loaned him $28,000 before he also vanished.
