A Florida man has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder following the killing of newlyweds who were found shot to death in their home near West Palm Beach on Saturday morning.

Sony Josaphat, 46, who lives at a home on the same block where the couple were killed, has been arrested and is currently being held in the Palm Beach County jail without bond.

The couple died from their gunshot wounds and have not yet been identified publicly. They tied the knot just one week earlier.

The 45-year-old woman who was killed was originally from Haiti and had been working as a nurse, while her husband, who was also from the Caribbean country, served as a local pastor.

One woman who was outside the home where the couple was killed claimed to be the murder victim's sister.

'She has never been as happy as she was now,' the woman said to WPTV.

A wedding photograph of the happy couple taken just one week earlier sees the couple smiling broadly next to one another.

Three of the woman's children were inside the home during the shooting. They included an adult who witnessed the killings.

'The family has invoked Marsy's Law for both victims,' the sheriff's office said in a statement, meaning their names won't be made public. 'Let's keep them in thought and prayer during this difficult time.'

Officials have not said whether the shooting occurred inside the home or outdoors.

Josaphat's daughter called 911 on Saturday morning to report how she saw her father shoot the newlyweds.

When deputies arrived on scene, the daughter and her brother were at the home while the victims were found lying on the sidewalk outside the front door of the house.

Josaphat used to live at the home but had not been there in more than a year.

He had been known to randomly show up from time to time and had a history of being 'controlling,' a redacted criminal probable cause affidavit reveals, according to NBC News.

The affidavit redacted the details that explicitly stated the connection between Josaphat and the victims.

On the day of the shooting, Josaphat was spotted walking through the front yard of the home and opened fire.

He later told a Palm Beach County sheriff's deputy how he was overcome with 'anger' after he saw a surveillance camera being installed by the front door of the home, according to the affidavit.

'He walked up to [redacted] and said, "Good morning." They said "Good morning" back to him. Sony then shot [redacted] in the upper torso and head. He then shot [redacted] several times,' the affidavit details.

Josaphat  drove himself to Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office headquarters, went into the main detention center courthouse and surrendered, declaring how he had just killed the victims.

Court documents say that Josaphat did not have a previous history of domestic violence or a restraining order with the victims

Neighbors in the usually quiet community said loud bangs were heard but thought the couple were working on their home.

'I heard what sounded like gunshots, but I thought people were just working on someone's roof so I ignored it and went into the house and then later when I went back outside that's when I saw all the police activity out here,' Dicter Pineda told WPTV.

Another neighbor said the two killings were particularly shocking and that although she didn't know the victims personally, they were members of her church.

'It's pretty quiet and we don't have too many things over here so I don't know how this happened,' Deanne Germeil said. 'This is horrific. It's terrible, and I don't know how to describe this,' she told WPBF.

'My heart goes out for the deceased,' added Daniel Meighan. 'I just pray that it doesn't happen again to someone else, something this awful.'
