Georgia lawmakers follow Florida's lead and demand entry to the College Football Playoff... with one proposal trying to turn the Orange Bowl into a CFP game this year

Following the lead of lawmakers in Florida, representatives in Georgia are trying to get their state's university football team into the College Football Playoff.

One state senator, Colton Moore, wrote an open letter demanding that the CFP adopts the Orange Bowl between Florida State and the University of Georgia as an extra playoff game this season.

'Your mandate is to send the four best teams in the country to the Playoff, and instead you have created a political mess with a decision based in bias to weaker conferences and teams who want nothing to do playing the Georgia Bulldogs,' Moore said, in part, in his letter.

While writing, Moore did not provide an answer or solution to how the addition of two teams into a four-team playoff would result in a clean way to determine a national champion.

Rather, he simply stated his belief that the 12-1 Georgia Bulldogs were one of the four best teams in the country and should not have been excluded over the likes of undefeated Michigan, undefeated Washington, a one-loss Texas team, and a one-loss Alabama team that Georgia lost to in the SEC Championship game.

While Moore's arguments for including Georgia are strong (first in the SEC in defense, top four in efficiency, top four in ESPN's Football Power Index, won 29 straight before the SEC title game loss, Kirby Smart eventually going to the Hall of Fame, the chance at winning three title sin a row for the first time ever) they lose legitimacy when one considers the plight of an undefeated Florida State team getting kicked out of the playoff.

'People of Georgia request you allow The Orange Bowl to be activated as a College Football Playoff game and therefore delay the national Championship by one week or otherwise make accommodations,' Moore said to conclude his letter.

Moore may have felt empowered by Florida state attorney general Ashley Moody - who announced her office was demanding information and communications from the CFP selection committee in relation to Florida State's snub.

That followed weeks of outrage and political posturing from Florida lawmakers trying to get FSU in after an unprecedented decision to leave the Seminoles out of the playoff.

The Bulldogs and Seminoles are slated to play in the non-playoff Orange Bowl on Dec. 30 at 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Rose Bowl Game between No. 1 Michigan and No. 4 Alabama will be followed by the Sugar Bowl between No. 2 Washington and No. 3 Texas on New Year's Day.
