Cops responding to the deadly UNLV shooting mistook the gunman for a bystander telling him to 'get out' in newly released body camera footage.

With their weapons drawn, two Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers can be seen climbing stairs inside the school during the December 6 shooting.

The shooter, 67-year-old Anthony Polito, appears only for a few moments in the more than five hours of footage released Wednesday.

Polito is seen wearing a long black trench coat over a white shirt and moving calmly through the first floor of the business school, one of his hands is visible at his side.

The officers can be heard shouting at Polito 'get out! get out!' as they point to an exit and continue along a walkway.

Polito opened fire inside the school and murdered three professors, Jan Chang, Patricia Velez and Naoko Takemaru. He was angered after having a job application rejected at the university.

Clark County Undersheriff Andrew Walsh said Thursday the two officers were not aware they had encountered the gunman inside the building.

'They don't have a description of the shooter at the time, and they know there are other police resources on the first floor,' Walsh said.

Roughly one minute after the brief interaction, Polito exited the building and was killed in a shootout after pulling his weapon, according to authorities.

Other clips show officers swarming on the campus shortly after Polito opened fire just before midday.

Officers can be seen combing through stairwells and hallways in an attempt to locate the shooter.

One cop can be heard saying: 'Careful. Don't rush it. Watch the doors. Keep looking at the doors, he's still active.'

Another officer can be heard reporting that Polito 'was down', but they continue to search the campus.

One officer can be heard adding: 'I have bodies in here, like a lot. Every f***ing floor.'
