A US-based travel influencer has revealed she was left 'fighting for her life' after she got electrocuted during a 'freak accident' in Thailand.
Cara Hodgson, 33, a social media star and orthodontist from Los Angeles, California, was 'rushed to the ER' and forced to spend 10 days 'in and out of hospitals' after she endured a horrific mishap while visiting the Asian country.
According to the content creator, she was 'electrocuted by power lines' during what she described as a 'freak accident' in a post shared to her Instagram account on Monday.
And while she's back home in the States now, she explained that she's 'still not out of the woods' and will have to make some 'big lifestyle changes' so that she could 'regain her strength.'

She also admitted that she's suffering from 'PTSD' from the terrifying ordeal - but added that she's 'just so grateful to be here.'
Taking to her social media account on New Year's day to reflect on the accident, she wrote, 'In the blink of an eye it could all be taken away. Lucky to be here, 2024.
And while she's back home in the States now, she explained that she's 'still not out of the woods' and will have to make some 'big lifestyle changes' so that she could 'regain her strength.' She's seen recovering at home after leaving the hospital
'Life is so precious. One second you have it, and the next second it can be taken away from you just like that.
'I had a freak accident on my trip and was electrocuted by power lines and ended up blacking out and being rushed to the ER in Thailand.
'It’s been the worst 10 days of my life - going in and out of hospitals fighting to regain my strength and fighting for my life. I am so lucky to be here today.'
Cara shared a carousel of images, including one that featured her lying in a hospital bed and another that showed the IV in her arm.
Another shot was of a note she had written to herself on a piece of paper while in the hospital, which read, 'Today is the first day I could eat and sit up in bed.
'I've been in four hospitals now. I am strong. I will get through this. I have to. I have so much more life to live, so much more love to give, so much of the world to see, and so many more smiles to make.

'I refuse to let this take me away from this beautiful world. I will keep fighting. I will not let this unfortunate freak accident rob me of anything.'

She also included a message to her friends and family members in her caption, writing, 'Thank you to each and every one of you for all of the phone calls, messages, voice messages, texts, flowers, breakfast deliveries, baked goods, chocolates, cards, and just the never ending support and love.
'Each text and message, even when I was too weak to answer, made all the difference to keep me fighting when I was losing hope.'
She concluded her post by reflecting on what she had learned from the experience.
'2023, you’ve taught me something I think we all need to be reminded of when we get caught up in the little things: What a precious privilege it is to be alive - to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love,' she stated.
'Just being alive, being able to breathe, eat, talk, move your body is something grand and something to be celebrated.'

Before the life-threatening incident, Cara posted a slew of content from her trip to Thailand. One clip featured her sitting on the edge of a boat in Wang Long Bay, Thailand
She also shared footage that showed her and her husband, Robert, enjoying breakfast in a pool together in Phuket
On her Instagram Stories, Cara shed some more light on her journey, explaining that she 'still doesn't have a lot of energy to type out' everything she had been through.
'I'm still not out of the woods yet,' she admitted. 'There's going to be a lot of upcoming doctor appointments and big lifestyle changes.
'I need to regain my strength and my weight, and I need a lot of help to recover from the PTSD of it all.
'There are still unanswered questions, but I'm just so grateful to be here.'
Before the life-threatening incident, Cara - who has racked up 25,000 followers on Instagram and 97,000 on TikTok for documenting her travels, as well as sharing dental hygiene tips - posted a slew of content from her trip to Thailand.
'One day you're in college sitting on the floor eating ramen together talking about your dreams of traveling. The next, you're eating a floating breakfast in Phuket together and have three more trips planned next year,' she wrote in one video that showed her and her husband, Robert, enjoying a meal together while in a pool.
Another clip featured her sitting on the edge of a boat in Wang Long Bay, Thailand, as she gushed that it 'felt straight out of a fantasy book.'
She also captioned a shot that showed her standing on a beach with pink hair extensions, 'Have always wanted to be a mermaid. Got to be one on the Phi Phi islands, where every moment is a postcard.'
