An Arkansas teen was left orphaned after a home explosion killed his parents and older siblings and left his grandfather in critical condition.

Stephen Bragg, 16, and Richard Pruden, 72, were the only survivors of a blast that blew Pruden's home to smithereens on December 30.

Bragg and his family were visiting his grandfather in Michigan at the time of the accident, which has been described by investigators as an 'undetermined fuel-air explosion.'

The Northfield Township Police Department identified the deceased as 51-year-old Hope Bragg, 53-year-old Don Bragg, 22-year-old Kenneth Bragg and 19-year-old Elizabeth Bragg.

According to a statement from Monticello High School, where Bragg is a student, the teen was left with a broken pelvis and lacerated liver. He remains in the hospital.

Pruden is in a coma and sustained burns on 20 percent of his body.

Those close to the family remembered them as passionate supporters of their local church and school district, as well as local archeology organizations.

Don Bragg worked at the University of Arkansas at Monticello for more than two decades as a Forest Service scientist.

His wife was involved with the school for 10 years and was an instructor for the school's 4-H youth development program.

Michael Blazier, the dean of the school's College of Forestry, Agriculture, and Natural Resources, remembered his colleagues as 'angels amongst us.'

He told KATV that the entire family was 'brilliant and hardworking, kind and committed to service.'

'It’s not just losing great colleagues and friends but for them to have two of their children lost in this accident is hard to process,' Blazier said.

Kenneth and Elizabeth Bragg, both college students, were described as 'excellent in music and science activities in school; they were the best in every way.'

A vigil for the family will be held Saturday at Whitmore Lake High School in Michigan.

According to police, the explosion happened in the 8000 block of Winters Lane over the weekend. Three victims were reported dead on scene.

Only the basement was left standing, as everything else had been blown to pieces.

Township Police Lieutenant Dave Powell told Fox 2 News that the blast was heard by Washtenaw County Sheriff's deputies nine miles away.

Three family members including Bragg and Pruden were taken to a local hospital for treatment. One of the victims later died.

Aerial footage showed firefighters sorting through the wreckage as emergency vehicles encircled the scene.

In the aftermath, members of the extended family set up GoFundMe campaigns to help with hospital bills.

John Bragg, Stephen's uncle, established a fund to cover out-of-pocket funeral and care expenses for the teen.

He wrote that the 16-year-old faced 'many months of recovery.'

Pruden's nephew, Chris Pruden, set up a separate campaign for his uncle, affectionately known as Rick or Rich.

The elderly man remains in intensive care at the University of Michigan Hospital.

Authorities are looking into the circumstances surrounding the explosion. No foul play is suspected.
