One of California's largest historic estates has hit the market for a head-spinning $110 million.

Known as Green Gables, the 74-acre property -  famed for hosting European royalty, U.S. senators and luxurious galas - is nestled in the ultra-affluent locale of Woodside, California.

The property boasts seven separate residences across the grounds, offering a total of 34 bedrooms and 26 bathrooms.

The estate has been owned by the Fleishhackers since roughly 1911, when San Francisco businessman and industrialist Mortimer Fleishhacker commissioned architectural firm Greene and Greene to design a country getaway for his family.

Current co-owner Marc Fleishhacker, great-grandson of Mortimer, told Forbes of the property's origins: '[Mortimer] was looking for a place to build a generational family compound.

'Starting in 1908, his driver would take him to look at properties where the fog stopped, and found Woodside, a beautiful environment against the Santa Cruz mountains. In the summer, the mountains keep the San Francisco fog at bay, allowing daytime highs to hit right around 80 degrees.'

Between 1911 and the 1930s, the family expanded the property from the original plot to the sweeping vista that it encompasses today.

The two-story main house consists of nine bedrooms and seven-and-a-half bathrooms spanning nearly 12,000 square feet.

The entrance leads into a grand foyer, with an expansive kitchen and adjacent butler's pantry just steps away.

At just over 6,300 square feet, Wurster House is the second-largest residence on the property.

The rustic abode offers six beds, four baths and two half-baths, as well as a library, mud room and four-car garage.

There's also the five-bedroom Oak Valley Home, two-bedroom Craftsman Home, three-bedroom Craftsman Barn Home and the two-bedroom Estate Manager's Home.

Among the residences is unparalleled outdoor space, with the spectacular grounds rife with flower and vegetable gardens.

With this, there's a Roman pool spanning more than 100 yards, a lily pond and three additional standard swimming pools - as well as a private reservoir.

Elsewhere, Greene's folly is a two-story building, previously developed for Bella Fleishhacker, and used to churn butter and make cream produced by the estate's dairy cows.

The Green Gables has hosted important people from all over the world, including European royalty, U.S. senators, congressional representatives and business leaders.

Back in 1965, the estate hosted the 20th anniversary commemoration gala of the United Nations.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. With this, much of the architecture remains unchanged since the structures were originally built.
