All golfers know that the game is all about hitting birdies.
But a pair of amateur enthusiasts couldn't believe it when a friendly parrot perched on their shoulders during a round at the Tinsley Golf Course in Sheffield.
The pair couldn't stop laughing as they struck their shots from the fairway, with the parrot remaining firmly in place on the shoulder as they swung the club.
The men, who have not been identified, turned up to play at the 18-hole municipal golf course earlier this month and were said to have come across the lost pet parrot by chance as they played their round.
They filmed the parrot encounter before posting it on a video-sharing website.
The two men were videoed laughing as they continued to play the 18-hole Tinsley Golf Course in Sheffield with their new friend
The golfer called Tom jokingly asked the parrot for golfing advice while it was on his shoulder
On the video the golfer called Tom spoke with the parrot on his shoulder and nibbling at his cheek.
He said 'well I'm thinking of chipping it on' and when the parrot nibbles at his cheek he adds 'oh yeah, that's me head'.
Tom says 'what do you reckon?'
When his friend replies 'I think a little seven iron', Tom then quips 'I wasn't talking to you' and points to the friendly parrot.
The golfer doing the filming then laughs and says 'I don't believe this' before Tom plays his shot.
He then adds: 'What do you think of that one Polly?'
They then swap roles and the other golfer plays his shot while laughing and with the parrot perched on his back.
Before hitting the ball the golfer comments 'I'm a bit worried about upsetting Polly.'
The Sheffield Star reported the duo made enquiries after the game with the help of Facebook and discovered the owner of a nearby salon had lost a parrot.
Polly was then reunited with the rightful owner.
'The positive side of social media, and the closest I got to a birdie,' joked one of the golfers.
