Shots were fired at the South Carolina State University on Tuesday, per a university alert.
The South Carolina State University and nearby Claflin University were put on lockdown after an alert was sent to students.
The lockdowns were lifted by 12.45pm, a SCSU spokesperson told DailyMail.com.
Both Orangeburg schools were put on lockdown at about 11.30am, after Claflin's alert system issued a message about a possible shooting at SCSU, according to ABC 15.
A suspect was reportedly seen at the scene and wearing all black and a ski mask, per the outlet.
Students at both campuses received text messages instructing them to 'shelter in place as police investigate.'
