Brazilian soap star Edson Caldas missing for days after leaving bar with a stranger

Brazilian actor Edson Caldas has been missing since last Friday when he was seen leaving a Rio de Janeiro bar with a mysterious man.

The 29-year-old soap opera actor was drinking a beer at a bar in the Rio de Janeiro neighborhood of Coelho Neto when he was reportedly called over by a man and left with him in his own vehicle.

Caldas's wife Jennyffer Vieria told Brazilian news outlet G1 that the family was able to track his cellphone and were able to locate a camera that showed his Fiat Doblo transiting through a street in the town of Japeri.

'We went door to door. We showed them his photo and asked. Then we got a camera that shows the car passing on the road there, but we can't disclose it because of the investigation. It's already in the hands of the police,' she said.

Vieria revealed that Caldas had a second job making deliveries and that she last heard from him Friday evening.

'I said 'where are you?' And he replied that he was making a delivery,' she said. 'And from then on he didn't respond anymore, he didn't say anything to me anymore.'

Witnesses, including the bar owner, told Caldas' brother that he sat down to have a beer moments before the stranger approached him.

'He put down the beer, they got in the car and left,' Vieria said. 'She said he was a brown, dark-skinned man, but we don't know because, until now, we haven't seen the cameras to try to identify this person.'

Brazilian news outlet Metropoles reported that Caldas had delivery order for the northern Rio de Janeiro of Grajaú before it was cancelled.

Caldas is best known for his role in the TV Record soap opera, Genesis, which aired in 2021. He also appeared in the 2023 film O Último Animal.

Caldas and Vieria are parents to a seven-year-old boy and two-year-old girl.

'My children have been feeling sick since the day they found out,' Vieria told Fala Brasil newspaper. 'My youngest daughter, who is clinging to him, has a fever. We are desperate.'
