The suspect in the disappearance of an 11-year-old Texas girl has appeared bare-chested in a menacing new mugshot - as cops say he was the 'last person to see her alive'.

Audrii Cunningham vanished early Thursday morning in Livingston, northeast of Houston, after being dropped off at the bus stop by her father. But, the youngster never showed up at school and has not been seen or heard from since.

Don Steven McDougal, 42, was arrested on Friday on an unrelated charge. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, the Polk County Sheriff's department confirmed to DailyMail.com.

McDougal's criminal history dates back to 2001. In 2008, he was convicted of two counts of enticement of a child, and was sentenced to two years behind bars for each count, local affiliate Fox26 News reported.

Though he has been named as a 'person of interest' in Audrii's disappearance, he has not been charged.

He is currently being held at the Polk County Jail on $500,000 bond. His mugshot shows body tattoos, including a swatstika and the words 'Ain't Scared', splattered across his bare chest

McDougal's dark blue 2003 Chevrolet Suburban is a vehicle of interest in the investigation, and is tied to the young girl's disappearance, officials said.

The missing girl's mother Cassie Matthews, told the news outlet she believes McDougal is a friend of Audrii's father.

The suspect, who lived on the same property as Audrii and her dad, had acted as a babysitter for the young girl, Fox 26 News reported.

On Saturday, Texas Department of Safety officials announced that police found a small backpack that likely belonged to a child near the Lake Livingston Dam, according to a statement, People reported.

Though police did not disclose further details about the backpack that was recovered, the day she disappeared she was carrying a bright red 'Hello Kitty' backpack.

Audrii's mom said it is not like her daughter to just run off or disappear.  'We have no leads so we are grasping at any string, any signs, anything in general,' she told KPRC.

Neighbor Denise Kolojaco told Fox26 she had seen McDougal at Audrii's home before just a quick hello and goodbye.

She said Audrii would pass her home on her way to the bus stop each day and pet her dog.

Kolaojaco explained that the walk from Audrii's house to the bus stop and her home is about a half-a-mile, but said she never stopped by on Thursday morning.

Audrii has blonde hair and blue eyes, and stands at 4ft. 1inches tall.  She was last seen wearing a black hoodie with white lettering, black pants, black high-top tennis shoes, and a bright red 'Hello Kitty' style backpack

Audrii's mom said she has been through a 'rollercoaster' of emotions.

'There is not one feeling you feel,' she explained. 'You are broken, you are mad, you are empty and right now I am empty.'

'I am not going to be the same unless my baby is returned to me and neither is her family, any of us, any of her friends, any of the people that she has been connected to in the community.'

Audrii disappeared near her home around 7am on Thursday morning and was supposed to board the school bus, but she never made it to class, the Polk County Sheriff's Office reported.

An Amber Alert was issued later that afternoon by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Police began searching the wooded area near the young girl's home as she is a lover of wildlife and nature, her family said.
