Budget airlines receive their fair share of complaints - but Frontier Airlines has found itself on the rather controversial end of some serious backlash after a traveler accused the company of 'scamming' customers with its luggage measurements.
Travel expert and TikTok creator Tia, who posts under the handle @travelwithtia23, has claimed the airline has made its sizing bins smaller than the measurements listed online - alleging that it has done so in order to charge more people for their luggage at the gates.
To prove this, Tia tested what bags fit in the carry-on and personal item sizing bins at Frontier Airlines compared to the ones provided by Spirit Airlines, who have the same size requirements, as per their websites.
Tia took her bag, which she would take on as a personal item, explaining it should adhere to the required dimensions, and tried to fit it in the corresponding bin at the Frontier counter.
TikTok creator Tia has claimed that Frontier Airlines is scamming people by making its sizing bins smaller than the actual requirements
By doing this she says the company can charge people for their luggage at the gates, which is between $50 to $100, depending on the bag
In the clip, she says that she is 'struggling' to put her bag into the bin, despite it fitting into the one at Spirit Airlines.
'It's supposed to be the exact same size and measurements as Spirit,' she explains while trying to cram her light-pink bag into the space.
'How they have made their sizer smaller than their actual requirements to scam people out their coins when they're trying to abide by the rules and policy that Frontier put in place for them,' she said.
Tia then went over to the Spirit section to test their sizer - and found it fit right in.
'Their sizer is allegedly supposed to be the exact same size as Frontier's but look how smooth that bag goes in,' she shares, demonstrating the bag fitting comfortably.
'You be the judge,' she concluded.
Tia's video was flooded with comments from travelers, some who agreed the sizing seemed smaller, while others thought Tia's baggage was too big.
'Since when did the personal size become that huge, I always thought personal item is usually like a laptop bag or a purse not an additional carry on,' one user questioned.

'Wait, that's a personal bag? I thought personal bag was like a purse or laptop bag?' another incredulous user commented.
'This is why budget airlines in the US just aren't worth it, other than a quick weekend trip with one small bag,' a third user chimed in.
'It's sad man I've seen so many people have to pay 99 dollars at the gate cause of this,' one flyer observed.
'There's that saying of you get what u pay for,' another joked.
A spokesperson from Frontier told the DailyMail.com: 'The interior of our bag sizers are precisely equal to the measurements of our established bag size limitations.'
In July 2023, a Florida woman has filed a $100 million class-action lawsuit against Frontier Airlines alleging the airline is not a budget airline.
Amira Hamad filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court Middle District of Florida, claiming it uses 'bait-and-switch' tactics when it comes to its baggage requirements and fees, charging up to $100 for added baggage costs.
'Frontier is not a budget airline. Frontier does have the lowest airfares,' the lawsuit stated.
'Frontier just breaks its fees into tiny little pieces and checkpoints to water down the appearance of what is actually an average airfare when combined and compared to the industry.'
According to Frontier's website, the personal item included with a ticket must be a maximum of 14 inches high, 18 inches wide, and eight inches deep, including handles, wheels, and straps.
The website states: 'Personal items must fit completely within the personal item portion of the bag sizer. Think purses, totes, computer bags, briefcases, and kids backpacks!'
