A Republican running for Congress decided to take the migrant crisis into her own hands by fixing a portion of the Mexico-California herself using razor wire.

Kate Monroe - a Marine Corps veteran and author - took 400 feet of razor wire to a gap in the southern border that has been infamous in recent months for mass migrant crossings leaving the rural area littered with trash and debris.

The border opening, known locally as the 'San Judas Break' based on its proximity to a nearby Mexican town bearing the same name, sits roughly 80 miles East of San Diego near Jacumba Hot Springs, California. The opening itself is only a few feet wide.

Monroe, who is running for California's 49th Congressional District, told DailyMail.com that she is sick of politicians talking about the border and neglecting to do anything about it.

'It was appalling to me that we couldn't secure that part of the wall as though it was a massive opening,' she told DailyMail.com in a statement.

'Thank God Amazon sells razor wire,' she added. 'I want Americans to realize you don’t have to wait for someone else to do what you can do.'

'Stop being passive and just watching. Get involved.'

The location has been a popular crossing spot for Chinese nationals, of which at least 450 have crossed through the gap since Monday.

The 2023 fiscal year reportedly saw over 37,000 Chinese migrants encountered at the border - with a staggering 20,000 more who have crossed since October, when the 2024 fiscal year began.

Monroe told DailyMail.com she saw a group of 60 or so migrants who had recently crossed awaiting free transportation from the U.S. government.

'When we arrived on scene the border patrol was seated in their SUVs watching the migrants while they waited to be picked up and taken to the airport. We spoke to the border guys and they said they can’t do anything about it.'

Monroe told DailyMail.com her patching up the gap was both effective and symbolic as thousands have used the location to cross in recent months.

'That hole being closed forced them to have to trek miles up rough terrain into the mountains,' she said before adding, and 'I’ll hike up there and close it too.'

Her securing the border stunt comes as Congress has hit a standstill on border security.

The Senate spent months negotiating a border security and foreign aid deal that fell apart at the last moment after Republicans decried the weak migrant provisions and leading GOP candidate Donald Trump criticized the bill as a 'horrible open borders betrayal of America.'

Immediately after the bill was released House Republicans said they would not take up the bill, and the Senate passed a bill without any funding for the border.

The House, meanwhile, has passed its own border security bill, but the Democrat-held Senate has signaled it will never get a vote.

And The White House has blamed Republicans for the current border woes.

'Every day between now and November, the American people are going to know that the only reason the border is not secure is Donald Trump and his MAGA Republican friends,' President Joe Biden said Feb. 6.

Now, though, the White House is reportedly mulling executive action to stem the flow of migrants crossing illegally into the U.S. - something former President Donald Trump did often in his tenure.

'The border is left open on purpose,' Monroe said. 'If we simply called up the National Guard, allowed border patrol to do their job while we build a wall, it’s very simple to fix it.'

'I believe that there is a sinister plan afoot by the left to flood America with migrants even if they are drug traffickers, terrorists or human traffickers,' she continued. 'They want Democrat supremacy at all costs.'
