Elon Musk claims Google is taking 'immediate action' to fix its 'absurdly woke' AI chatbot.
Google's generative AI chatbot and image generator Gemini has been slammed over its 'hallucinating' diverse but historically inaccurate images from user prompts.
The tech giant temporarily disabled Gemini's image generation tool on Thursday after users complained it was generating 'woke' but incorrect images such as black Vikings, female Popes and black Founding Fathers.
'A senior exec at Google called and spoke to me for an hour last night,' said Musk, who has been critical of diversity efforts in the past.
'He assured me that they are taking immediate action to fix the racial and gender bias in Gemini. Time will tell,' the tech mogul wrote on his X platform.

Other historically inaccurate images included black Founding Fathers
'We're already working to address recent issues with Gemini's image generation feature,' Google said in a statement on Thursday
Gemini's image generation also created images of black Vikings
'We're already working to address recent issues with Gemini's image generation feature,' Google said in a statement on Thursday.
'While we do this, we're going to pause the image generation of people and will re-release an improved version soon.'
AI chatbots and image generation have raised concerns that human bias and prejudice could become baked into the bots, as they learn from the information provided to them.
It is possible in an attempt to address possible discrimination Google may have overcorrected in the production of Gemini.
'Gemini's AI image generation does generate a wide range of people. And that's generally a good thing because people around the world use it' Google explained.
'But it's missing the mark here,' the company added.
Suspicions about an agenda behind the bot were raised when alleged old tweets from the Google executive responsible for Gemini surfaced online.
Gemini senior director Jack Krawczyk's allegedly wrote 'white privilege is f—king real' and that America is rife with 'egregious racism' on X.
Screenshots of the tweets, seemingly from Krawczyk's now-private account, were circulated online by those critical of the chatbot.
However, they have not been independently verified.
Krawczyk allegedly described President Biden's inaugural address as 'one of the greatest ever' for 'acknowledging systemic racism' and 'reiterating the American ideal is the dream for the world but we need to work on ourselves to earn it.'
He also allegedly wrote about being moved to tears when voting for Biden.
'I've been crying in intermittent bursts for the past 24 hours since casting my ballot' a screenshot of a tweet shows.
'Filling in that Biden/Harris line felt cathartic.'

Gemini has also been criticized by former Google employee, Debarghya Das, who wrote on X that it was 'embarrassingly hard to get Google Gemini to acknowledge that white people exist.'
Das posted the comment alongside a series of images generated by Gemini with no white people.
Addressing the issues raised Krawczyk wrote on Wednesday that the historical inaccuracies reflect the tech giant's 'global user base,' and that it takes 'representation and bias seriously.'
'We will continue to do this for open ended prompts (images of a person walking a dog are universal!),' he wrote on X.
Adding: 'Historical contexts have more nuance to them and we will further tune to accommodate that.'
