Border has seen a 7,000% spike in Chinese migrants since 2021: Top Republican warns of 'military-age men' and spies entering US who would wreak havoc in any war over Taiwan

A top Republican says 'every American should be scared to death' by the surge in Chinese migrants entering the US, saying they could be spies or saboteurs for Beijing in any conflict over Taiwan.

Mark Green, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, said the influx of Chinese migrants included many 'military-age men' who could end up 'tracking our railheads and looking at our ports' for Beijing.

US Customs and Border Protection says it encountered 24,048 Chinese migrants at the US-Mexico border in fiscal year 2023, which ended in September —  a 7,000 percent jump on the 323 who came amid the pandemic-era lockdowns of 2021.

Beijing has long considered self-governed Taiwan as part of China and has threatened to force it to 'unify' with the mainland. Many analysts say a military buildup suggests an attack could happen as soon as 2027.

The US has said it would defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion.

'I think every American should be scared to death,' Green told a panel about border security at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference gathering in Washington DC on Thursday.

'It's the 24,000 Chinese nationals who came in last year, 20,000 Since October 1.'

On X/Twitter, Green has said they include large numbers of 'military age men,' and that 'no doubt some have ties to' the Chinese Communist Party and the country's armed forces, the People's Liberation Army.

'I'm not suggesting that China is going to be attacking the United States, but if we defend Taiwan, I can't imagine there aren't people in there who are going to be tracking our railheads and looking at our ports,' he said.

He referred to incidents of Chinese citizens posing as tourists but suspected of being spies repeatedly trying in recent years to gain access to military facilities in Alaska.

In one incident at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, US troops found a drone in a vehicle with Chinese citizens.

'We've had mass waves of Chinese terrorists storming military installations with cameras,' said Green.

'It's a desperate threat.'

The high success rate of Chinese asylum claims is a long-standing trend, but it has come under the spotlight following a spike in illegal crossings by Chinese migrants last year

In response to questions about Chinese citizens illegally entering the US, the Foreign Ministry in Beijing said late last year it was 'highly concerned' about the situation.

'China opposes and resolutely cracks down on any form of illegal immigration and is willing to actively carry out international cooperation in this area,' it said.

More Chinese nationals are encountered at the San Diego sector of the California-Mexico border nowadays than Mexicans, according to CBP data obtained by Fox News this week.

Some 21,000 Chinese nationals have been encountered since the financial year started in October, more than the 18,000 Mexicans and second only to some 28,000 migrants from Colombia.

Dozens of Chinese migrants were spotted lined up at the California border town of Jacumba on February 15, telling reporters shamelessly how they're here to 'take the money'.

The Chinese surge is part of a historic and overwhelming wave of migrants across the Southern Border of the country since 2021.

The US is seeing more migrants — and from more countries — than ever before, federal data show.

In San Diego, where a large share of Chinese migrants try to enter the US, the ease at which people avoid detection was captured in stunning footage shared by Fox News.

Border sources claim that 208 Chinese nations were stopped on Monday, bringing the total to 452 Chinese migrants apprehended in San Diego over the last three days

The Chinese arrivals have raised concern with elected officials about why the citizens for a US foe are coming here in increasing numbers.

Some have been found to have links with the CCP and its affiliated PLA, but border chiefs are concerned more could be slipping through their grasp.

A US Border Patrol chief has warned that his agents are being overwhelmed by the flood of Chinese migrants crossing the border illegally and that they could be missing Communist spies.

Chief Patrol Agent Anthony Good, of the Border Patrol's El Paso Sector, told the Homeland Security Committee during a private hearing in September last year that his agents struggled to assess the risks of the Chinese arrivals

They were 'trying their best to figure out why [individuals from other continents are] coming' but that 'information can be hidden' and 'their agendas, their ideologies, the reason for them coming could be missed,' he said.

Many Chinese newcomers say they are simply escaping poverty and China's tumbling economy, many paying thousands of dollars to cartels and people traffickers for a chance to get decent-paying work.

One migrant this month told Nikkei Asia that China's property bubble had burst and once well-paid jobs selling condos had 'dried up.'

'My monthly pay decreased to 2,000 from 3,000 yuan [$278 to $417], which wasn't enough to live on,' said the migrant.

PolitiFact, a fact-checking group, has said that Green and other Republicans are exaggerating the threat from Chinese migrants, who mostly head top the US for 'jobs and freedom.'

'A significant portion are young men, but that’s not unusual for any immigrant group,' said the group.
