Renovations of up to $500million for the New Orleans Saints' Superdome are set to be completed in time for Super Bowl LIX, with the stadium set to celebrate its 50th birthday next year, too.

City officials said they plan to see the arena's makeover plans through as New Orleans gets to grips with hosting the biggest annual sports game in America next year.

The game will tie New Orleans with Miami for the record for most Super Bowls hosted at 11.

The renovations are expected to be completed by July and have already included the setup of new escalators, bathrooms and walkways, among other amenities.

The stadium's eastern side was worked on last summer before efforts were gathered to improve the building's western side, according to Sports Business Journal and Fox 8 New Orleans

'This renovation was really focused on how we can create a much better fan experience,' said Saints and Pelicans President Dennis Lauscha at a Feb. 21 press conference, according to Biz New Orleans.

'A lot of new stadiums only focus on how to generate revenue, which is important, of course, but ultimately our focus was the fan experience.'

The renovation project was initially expected to cost $450M when it was approved in 2019, but an additional $50M was raised due to delays stemmed from the COVID-19 pandemic. '

Saints owner Gayle Benson evoked renovations to NFL executives when she pitched Caesars Superdome to host the Big Game, years ago.

Officials say they expect at least 125,000 visitors for Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025, according to Axios

In 2018, New Orleans won the bid to host the 2024 Super Bowl, but the expansion of the NFL season to include a 17th regular season game conflicted with the city's Mardi Gras parade scheduled that year, forcing organizers to push plans back by a year.

The last time that New Orleans hosted the Super Bowl was in 2013. It was at the same venue. The Baltimore Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers in that year's big game, 34-31.
