Oppenheimer was awarded the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, which has emerged as the award most likely to predict the winner of Best Picture at the Academy Awards in recent years.
As he took the stage with fellow producers Chuck Roven and Emma Thomas, writer and director Christopher Nolan noted that winning the Zanuck Award was a new experience for the group, even though they had been nominated in the past.
'Every time we’ve been in this room, we’ve felt so much support,' he said, via Variety.
And though Nolan is best known as the auteur behind hits like the Dark Knight trilogy, Dunkirk and Inception, Thomas suggested he was possibly an even greater producer than a director.
'He’s absolutely brilliant, we’ve worked on 12 films now,' she gushed.
Oppenheimer has been a hit with critics and audiences alike. The biopic has grossed nearly $1 billion against a $100 million budget, and it holds an impressive 96 percent fresh rating from the most prestigious critics surveyed by Rotten Tomatoes.
The movie's success, which came as part of the popular 'Barbenheimer' double bill with Barbie, signaled that audiences may be more interested in film's that aren't based on existing IP or superheroes after years of Marvel dominance.
The nominees were announced last month, with American Fiction, Barbie, Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon among the nominees for the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures.

In an emotional speech, director Guillermo del Toro paid tribute to the legendary filmmaker and preservationist Martin Scorsese before presenting him with the David O. Selznick Achievement Award.
He saluted Scorsese for continuing to make some of his most vital work several decades into his lengthy career.
'An artist’s spirit cannot be tamed,' the Mexican director said. 'It will remain vital, savage and even undomesticated — even in the fourth or fifth decade of a prestigious career.'
When it was his turn to speak, Scorsese was greeted by a standing ovation and rapturous applause from the audience.
He kept the mood light by recounting a humorous speech from former winner Alfred Hitchcock, whom he had met early in his career.
'When you receive such an award, you want to pinch yourself to make sure it isn’t being made posthumously,' he recalled Hitchcock saying. The Vertigo filmmaker also gave advice on how to curb runaway productions, a term referring to movies going way over budget or beyond their scheduled shooting period.
'Make producers and directors more faithful to their wives,' Hitchcock warned, according to Scorsese.
