Tom Daley's husband Dustin Lance Black has revealed why they relocated to Los Angeles with their two children following his court case.

The Oscar-winning screenwriter's, 49, shock court case was thrown out at the end of 2023 after he was embroiled in a nightclub spat with BBC presenter Teddy Edwardes.

Dustin has now claimed he and Olympic diver husband Tom, 29, moved across the pond because he felt the UK government 'owed him an apology'.

Speaking to The Guardian, he shared: 'This is no longer, you know, do I like or dislike a place? I think that the crown, the government owes me an apology. And I have not received it. I think they also owe me a lot of money.'

Dustin, who share two sons Robert, five, and Phoenix, 10 months, with Tom also gushed over his 'kind' children.

He added: 'Tom and I know how to have fun outside of parenthood. We work hard, we should play hard. But I do not pay attention to other people’s opinions of me or my family any more.

'I reacted to having horrible examples of fatherhood in my life by becoming, I think, a really good dad. It’s the project that I’m most proud of.'

Dustin, who recently watched his beloved son ring a bell for being named the 'kindest child in his grade', added: 'I’m very, very proud of him.'

CCTV footage shows the moment that landed Tom's husband in court as he became embroiled in a nightclub spat with BBC presenter Teddy Edwardes, sparking a £10,000 assault case which was thrown out by a judge within hours.

Dustin was alleged to have grabbed an 'aggressive' Teddy's wrist causing her to spill her drink over herself, but her claims were dismissed at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

Lawyers for the Oscar-winning screenwriter successfully argued there was no clear evidence Dustin, who is said to have lost £600,000 due to the case, had ever touched Teddy's wrist at the Freedom nightclub in Soho on August 18 last year, and that her evidence was inconsistent.

Video footage shows the row between the two before Dustin walked out of the venue where Teddy was partying with her Love Island ex Amber Gill.

Moments later, Dustin was punched in the back of the head by Teddy, resulting in a concussion - for which she received a police caution.

A judge took the unusual step of dismissing the assault case before the defense had even begun - deciding at the end of the prosecution evidence there was insufficient evidence any assault occurred.

Court cases can be thrown out at the close of the prosecution's case if they are so weak that a jury, properly directed, could not properly convict. The decision meant that neither Dustin or Tom had to take to the stand.

After the verdict, Teddy took to Instagram to share a post of drinks against the London skyline.

CCTV footage played to the court showed Dustin's argument with Teddy at the bar while Amber and Tom looked on in shock.

The video shows the two couples standing in front of the bar as Teddy and Dustin appear to argue animatedly.

Tom can be seen appearing to attempt to calm Dustin down before Dustin moves his hand towards Teddy, who dropped the glass she was holding. The defence argued Dustin took hold of Teddy drink, but did not touch her.

Dustin then immediately walked out of the club.

The judge criticised Teddy for inconsistencies in her account about the first time she saw the CCTV of the footage - after police officers earlier gave evidence to say the footage was 'leaked' - and for posting about the incident on social media platforms before telling the court it was 'not real life'.

Tom revealed he met the film director at a 'random dinner' in Los Angeles a decade ago before they later tied the knot.

In December 2013, Daley announced he was dating a 'guy' who made him 'feel so happy' and 'so safe', with the pair going on to marry one another in 2017.

Touching on the pair's 20 year age gap Tom said: 'One thing I learned early on is to not care what other people think. That's been useful since I've been with my husband. I'm 27, he's 47.

'People have their opinions, but we don't notice the age gap. When you fall in love, you fall in love,' he remarked in an interview with The Guardian.
