Veteran sportswriter Peter King announced his retirement after over four decades of covering the NFL.

The 66-year-old gained notoriety from his Monday Morning Quarterback and Football Morning in America columns- where he provided weekly in-depth coverage through the NFL season.

On Monday, the legendary writer explained his decision to call it a career. King admitted having a feeling that the 2023-24 NFL season will be his last and mentioned that he is ready to watch the Super Bowl on TV as a casual fan.

'Who's complaining? Not me,' King wrote. 'I'm the luckiest man on the face of the earth.'

'To be a long-termer in an increasingly short-term business, to write this column for 27 years and to be a sportswriter for 44, well, that's something I'll always be grateful for. Truly, I've loved it all.'

Additionally, King pointed out how he wants to spend more time with his family. He also acknowledged his eagerness to see what there is outside of his journalism career as he pointed out a growing disinterest in the day-to-day of the NFL.

King's illustrious career began as a writer for The Cincinnati Enquirer from 1980 to 1985. He then spent four years working for Newsday before joining Sports Illustrated. King was named the National Sportswriter of the Year three times and authored five books outside his journalistic work.

In May 2018, King announced that he was leaving Sports Illustrated after 29 years to work for NCB Sports full-time.

On television, King joined HBO's Inside the NFL in 2002 as a managing editor and reporter. In 2006, he joined the panel for Football Night in America on NBC.

Two years later, King co-hosted The Opening Drive on Sirius NFL Radio every offseason from 2008 to 2011. He joined Randy Cross and Bob Papa on the air for the program while regularly attending Chris Russo's Mad Dog Unleashed as a contributor.

King signed off with his signature 'adieu haiku' as he calls it a career.

'It's been rewarding.

The future? I do not know.

But for now … –30–'
