Two of the men involved in the mass brawl with Cam Newton which has gone viral on social media have broken their silence on the fight - claiming the former NFL quarterback triggered it by trash talking them.

Newton, who last played for the Carolina Panthers back in 2021, was involved in a brawl at a 7-on-7 football event in Atlanta on Sunday, when cameras captured him scrapping with several men after appearing to be ambushed by a large group.

On Monday, a video emerged of a man wearing a TopShelf Performance hoodie - who was seemingly involved in the fight - appearing to hit out at Newton before the brawl broke out.

'I'm going to say it - they can't hide the film now... your non-throwing a** Atlanta hero quarterback cannot beat me,' he said.

And after footage of the fracas went viral over the weekend, the man heard aiming a dig at Newton and then scrapping with the ex-NFL MVP - TopShelf Performance coach TJ Brown - has revealed the story behind it.

Brown discussed the fallout with Newton which centered around him and little brother Steph - also a football coach for TopShelf Performance.

The Brown brothers have pitted their youth team against Newton's in the past and gotten the better of him on three occasions, meaning there was no love lost by the time they met for a fourth time on Sunday.

TJ alleges that Newton initially ignited a war of words by trash talking their team, opening up on what went down in an interview with Fox News.

'It’s probably three minutes into the game, he’s sitting up top with all his kids around him under a tent yelling down on us,' he said about Newton. '"Hey, I know that play. That’s my stuff. I taught y’all everything y’all know. I’m y’all daddy. I made y’all. I’m the reason for everything y’all got going on." He’s just yelling all this stuff.'

Brown then revealed that the physical altercation began when his brother Steph confronted Newton after the game, which is when the situation escalated.

Video footage showed Newton grabbing Steph by his jacket after they traded insults, before TJ intervened.

'If you’re walking up a flight of stairs, and you see a 6’6" guy grab your little brother trying to throw him down some stairs, you’re going to intervene,' TJ said.

'It doesn’t matter who you are, rather it be a punch, rather it be a push, rather it be grabbing him. You’re going to do something. So, at that point, with Cam putting his hands on another grown man, something is going to come behind that.

'If you ask anybody about me, I’m not confrontational, I’m not loud, I don’t get mad at people, I don’t argue with people, I don’t fight, I don’t do none of that crazy stuff. That’s not me.'

TJ went on to describe Newton's antics as 'typical Cam Newton behavior on the 7-on-7 scene.

'Nobody’s just going to let you go around disrespecting and talking crazy to them' he added. 'I know how to brush it off, but not everybody’s like that.'

Steph also added: 'I’m disappointed in myself. I let Cam trigger me to that point where I entertained what he was doing, but it was never out of ill will or to put him in harm’s way.

'I’m 5’9", man, but I stand on what I stand on. I say what I’m going to say no matter what. I ain’t got to be loud, this and that. But me going up there was to let him know, "Cam, you’re not gonna disrespect our organization, you’re not going to disrespect our kids or our parents out here. You’re bigger than that."'
