President Joe Biden sparked outrage on Monday for making news about the ongoing Israeli war in Gaza while making a stop for ice cream in New York City

The president stopped by the ice cream shop with late-night comedian host Seth Meyers after taping a special interview at the NBC studio.

Biden stood eating his ice cream cone offering to buy reporters a treat as they shouted questions about his planned trip to the Southern border on Thursday and his efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in Israel

'Well I hope by the beginning of the weekend, I mean the end of the weekend,' Biden replied. 'My national security advisor says we're close, we're not done yet. My hope is by next Monday, we'll have a ceasefire.'

The sudden announcement by the 81-year-old Biden 'surprised' Benjamin Netanyahu while Qatar, the mediator in ceasefire talks, as said Israel and Hamas are not close to a potential deal.

Biden's announcement of the sparked surprise from journalists, including CNN's Jake Tapper.

'That's a big announcement from the president to be given in an ice cream shop,' he said wryly, after footage of the president licking his ice cream cone and talking about the war in Gaza went viral online.

'Biden announcing this while gobbling ice cream is the most veep sh*t I’ve seen in years,' wrote Politico reporter Ursula Perano on X, referring to the dark political HBO comedy.

'I still can’t believe they had Joe Biden explain the situation in Israel while eating an ice cream cone. We still have American hostages in Gaza. Just insane tone deafness,' talk radio host Clay Travis wrote on X, sharing video of the moment.

'Joe Biden looks like a bumbling idiot holding that thing,' agreed conservative communications expert Steve Guest.

Biden's casual remarks between licks of ice cream, sparked anger from political figures and activists.

'Joe Biden has more press conferences in ice cream parlors than at the White House,' wrote Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) on X. 'Check out his latest masterclass.'

Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) expressed her shock at the president's casual demeanor of eating ice cream while speaking dismissively about the crisis on the Southern border.

'If your child gets murdered by an illegal alien who Joe Biden let into the country, he'll just go for ice cream,' she wrote on X. 'If your child gets killed because he let the Taliban guard their perimeter, he'll be looking at his watch. Don't expect him to care.'

Others expressed their frustration with Biden for going out for ice cream, while American citizens and Israelis were still being held hostage in Gaza.

'Disgusting! Shows his deep feelings about hostages,' wrote Chava, a self-described activist and 'ardent Zionist' on X.

'Obviously Joes ice cream cone was more important than Israel and hostages. He didn’t even have the decency to put the ice cream team cone down. A schmuck,' wrote Diana, another Biden critic.

Israeli officials expressed mild confusion about Biden's newfound optimism in the ice cream shop.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was 'surprised' by Biden's remarks, according to a senior Israeli political source speaking to ABC News.

Another source described Hamas' demands in order to reach a ceasefire were 'still delusional.'

Critics of Biden's support for the Israeli war in Gaza were also offended by the president's tone-deaf approach.

'Shame on you Mr. Biden, speaking about ongoing massacres and atrocities against innocent civilian Palestinians in Gaza while eating ice cream.. without even showing respect to the thousands killed with your complicity,' wrote Jalel Ouerghi, a Phd researcher at University of Exeter UK on X.

'DISGRACEFUL,' wrote author and activist Peter Daou on X. 'Biden talks about a ceasefire while holding an ice cream cone, like that's the level of importance for him. Put the damn thing down and stop this f*cking genocide, like you could have months ago.'

Others agreed.

'How many children in Gaza don't have water to drink or food to eat because of the Biden administration-funded Israeli blockade?' asked Gerald Celente, of the Trends Research Institute, on X. 'At least Joe has his little ice cream.'

Biden's love of ice cream is well-documented, as he frequently makes stops at a local ice cream shop while traveling on the campaign trail. His favorite ice cream is Graeter’s chocolate chip.
